Welcome to Dr. Lockhart's Psychology Site

(and Hiking Site)

You are Visitor # Hit Counter

I hope that you will find this site to be informative, helpful, amusing - perhaps, provocative (Mental Floss). I am including mental health links, links for support groups for various disorders and life problems, psychology links, and psychology tidbits. Please feel free to voice your opinions through E-mail or my Feedback Page.  I have also added The Hiking Site to this site, which has nothing to do with psychology.  This section is particularly geared for hikers of the White Mountains of New Hampshire with map trails and elevation profiles.  I am continually updating both sections, so please come back!

Did You Know That . . .

bulletIn America, 28,000,000 adults have a serious mental disorder (other than alcohol and drug abuse). These disorders cost about $69,000,000 annually in lost productivity in the workplace.
bullet50% to 70% of visits to primary care physicians are for medical problems brought on by psychological factors.
bullet60% of employee absences may be due to psychological problems.
bulletDepressed employees are 4 times more likely to take disability days than non-depressed employees.

Brief Education Bio

I guess that I should introduce myself to you, and provide some background. As a brief bio, I was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. My parents moved the family (an older brother and older sister) when I was 2 years old to Scarsdale, New York. Of course, I have no memory of Charlotte, but I have heard that it was, and still is, a wonderful place to live.

After attending Scarsdale High School, I went to New Haven, Connecticut to attend Yale University. I graduated in 1965 with a B.A. in psychology.

The next move was to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to attend Temple University, where I attained an M.A. in General Psychology in 1967.

I transferred to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1967. There, I attained an M.S. in Clinical Psychology in 1969, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1974. My Clinical Psych Internship (1971-1972) was in Gainesville, Florida at the University of Florida Medical Center.

I was licensed for the Independent Practice of Psychology by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1977, and later by the State of New Hampshire in 1991. My clinical work has taken me in Massachusetts from Amherst to Belchertown to Lowell to Chelmsford to Woburn, and finally to Stoneham where my office for Private Practice is today.

My Private Practice is focused on the Psychotherapy of adults, and couples. As part of my practice, I treat the following (not a fully inclusive list):

bulletDepression
bulletAnxiety
bulletMarital Issues
bulletSexual Issues
bulletAdjustment Issues
bulletSubstance Abuse Issues

I collaborate with an individual's Primary Care Physician, or Psychiatrist when medication is appropriate.  For those of you who want the full details, my résumé is available.
