In
2001 I began travelling with my easel to places I'd always wanted to
go. France and Italy were my first choices and I didn't look back from there.
Since then, I've also visited Portugal, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, Amsterdam,
Belgium, Germany, California...and the list continues to grow. My approach
has been to extend my trips to allow ample drying time for the paintings and
this has become a valid excuse to linger whilst enjoying the various cultural
aspects as well as plenty of the local food and drink!
Many
of my paintings are plein air "studies" and in my opinion, there
is nothing like painting on location. In that respect, I hope that I have
been able to bring a sense of my experiences into what I've chosen to paint.
I also like to work from memories, sketches, photographs or a combination
thereof to keep things interesting. I draw inspiration from many artist's
work...some of which are Cezanne, Matisse and American artists such as Wolf
Kahn, Richard Diebenkorn and Marsden Hartley.
Artist friends and contemporaries also play a role. My connection is primarily
with the landscape but I sometimes enjoy the challenge of a still life as
well as incorporating a figurative aspect into my work.
I hope you enjoy what you see in the galleries here. Please check them often
as I am always painting and update them regularly. Thank you for visiting!
