The 1964 Jet-Smooth Luxury Chevrolet
This is my 1964 Chevy
Impala. It is a 4 door sport sedan (no post) with a 283 turbo
fire V-8 engine with a 2 barrel Rochester carburetor and a 2 speed
powerglide automatic transmission. It currently has 73,000 miles on
the odometer. The car was originally owned by Virgil Huff, my
godfather. When he went to a nursing home he gave the
car to my mother Verlie Moore. In 1986 she gave me the
car. I flew to Ohio and drove it back to Arizona. It had 26,
000 miles on it when I left Ohio. Three days and 1,800 miles
later I reached Arizona with no problems. Although I did not have
Dinah Shore with me singing "See The USA in a Chevrolet"
it was a pleasant
trip. However, people now tell me that not having air
conditioning in a car in Arizona is a problem. At first the
Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles was concerned that the
odometer had rolled over and the mileage could not be
correct. The car is all original except for the paint.
It has been repainted with the original mint green color. All
of the major components are still original. My daughters
hated this car when they were in high school. They would say
dad, "please don't take the green car." Once the boys started
saying, "your dad has a cool car" they seem to change their
opinions somewhat. I drive this car to work daily and it has
been very dependable. They just don't make them like this any
more.
