Days July 27-29, 2001
I arrived on Thursday to meet Barbara (Chicago) and soon after, Kathy and Marie (Minnesota). After an incredibly long wait for Marie and Kathy getting their rental cars, we were off. Kathy was given an SUV upgrade (I guess they ran out of cars). Marie got the standard chevy whatever. She claims she can't find her way to Roslyn and needed me as a navigator but she is a motorcyce mama who probably just scoffs at maps. I took her the "back way" since it was now becoming rush hour out of Seattle. You go south on I-5 from the airport (which had a bit of traffic) to the Auburn exit (exit 142, I think). Then you take Highway 18 east and it meets up with I-90 at North Bend. It avoids the city traffic and is a pretty route.
We arrived in Roslyn and Marie dropped me at the Village Pizza so I could "check in" to Harry's Inn. I wasn't sure which room I was in so I sat at a table out front waiting for Barbara, who I knew was in one of the other rooms. Kathy and Barbara were delayed because they went to the spot in the airport where the SUV should have been and it wasn't there. They had to get another one ...
When Barbara arrived, she knew she was in the Victorian room (one of the front rooms), so that meant I was in Moonstruck, the other front room. The back two rooms are the Romance room (Linda from Montana thoroughly enjoyed this one) and the Coal Miners Room (occupied by Anne Moos, a true mooseketeer!).

We met up for dinner at, where else, but Village Pizza. While we were there, we were approached by a goofy guy and his dog. It was James and Justice, who drove all the way from New York in a new (and big) truck. We were also joined by Sheila from California. We sat outside the Village Pizza chatting long after dark when we realized they had removed all the other tables and chairs at this point. So we moved on to the Brick, where we ran into Maria (from Arizona?), Chris (from Victoria, Canada) and Chuck Greywolf. I felt like I already knew all these folks from last year's pictures (even though I didn't go). It wasn't too late of a night since we were all pooped from traveling. Over at the Humingbird Inn, they thought Kathy wasn't coming and had rented her room to Gary and his wife (help with names!). Not to worry, Kathy, James and Justice shacked up in the bunkhouse (with some great reading material!)

Friday
morning, Barbara and I went to the Roslyn Cafe for breakfast. Yes, it
is out of focus. We met up at Memory Makers, where Bobbie informed us
that there was a close out sale, so we gathered some bargains and met
up with other folks trickling into town. Then it was time for lunch!

We went over to Tranquility Base after lunch and signed in. The rest of the afternoon was a lot of catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Dinner was Sons of the Tundra Ice Breaker and Get Acquainted Dinner.
|
Here are Tammy, James, Barbara, Kathy, Gary and his wife, part of Linda and Sheila at the Sons of the Tundra Dinner. |

Kathy had brought some Moose Breath mugs a friend of hers made. She put some in the auction and the others were given as gifts.

While we were inside having a great time, Barry Corbin quietly arrived into town.

Here Chris, Chuck, Marie and Susie Weis greet a very tired Barry. I think his intention was to go to his motel and go right to bed but Chuck encouraged him to come in and greet the crowd. Notice the cigar. |
|
Chuck
is a man of many gifts. |
So while Barry was inside, his cigar patiently waited outside. |
After dinner, a group of us decided to visit the cliff. It was twilight and it was beautiful as always.

Eddie, Maria, Chris (who is ALWAYS smiling) and James at the cliff. Then it was off to Marcos' bar for a beer and a late bedtime. |
On Saturday morning, we all gathered for the Aurora Borealis pancake breakfast at Tranquility Base. Then it was time for the Running of the Bulls (in boxer shorts) and the parade.
|
Marie and Kathy dressed their Raven Ladies costumes for the parade. James poses here with Marie. |

Barry was offered a car to ride in but he instead requested a horse.

The
parade started with a brave group of men and one woman running along in
their boxers. The fling guy was one of them (the guy with the mini-trebuchet).

Then it was time for the It Happened in Roslyn tour with Dan Dusek. We loaded the bus. I shared a seat with James and Justice. See my map and pictures for all the local places within town. We did make it out to the cliff again and of, course, Ruth Ann's grave.
|

After the tour, Sheila, Eddie and I went over to the Roslyn Theatre to catch "State and Main" for the Ed Chigliak film festival. This was the first time I had been in the theatre.

When we got out of the movie ("It's not a lie, it's a gift for fiction") and headed over to Memory Makers AGAIN (I swear we spent most of the weekend there) where the actual show props were up for sale. Steve, the store owner, took a couple of us to the storage behind the store where there were a ton of larger items from the show.

So then it was off to change and get to the Big Feast. During the Big Feast, there was a silent auction and a costume contest. I got a Moose Breath mug at the auction!
|
The finalists in the costume contest Adam (James), Shelly and Barbara Semanski (Betty). Elaine's son, Dusty, is in #51 shirt. James as Adam won. |
Dan Dusek with his ladies, Dolores and Kathy. Eddie is behind them. |

It was another late night at Marcos. The Brick has a band over the weekend and it gets a little loud. But there was quite a good time by all over there, right, Susie??
Sunday
Sunday morning, it was
time for the Wake Up Call pancake breakfast at Tranquility Base. K said one
of my favorite quotes of the weekend as her sister, Harret, left for church:
"She's going to church to pray for our families - it's gonna take four
hours!"
Another good one, as Barry
came in bleary-eyed. We said good morning, how are you.
He responded, "I'm hung-over!"
After breakfast, shopping was fast and furious at Memory Makers so a couple of us jumped in to help Bobbie out.

No, Justice! Don't fetch the golf balls! |
My team included James, Sheila and Harvey. I got the maximum on every hole except on Ed's Hole where I got a hole in one!
We went back to Memory Makers, which was very bare by this point. A group of us shot a picture in KBHR's very dusty studios. Mine was out of focus (amazing for a point and shoot that almost every photo taken by someone else, was out of focus!) Thank you, James for a digital of this group.

Then it was time to head to the cliff (again, it's not going to be there much longer). It is our ceremonial closing of our weekend with oranges at sunset.

Later, we met back up at Village Pizza for dinner. Then we went to the Victorian Room upstairs to watch an NX episode. It was comfy and I think Justice was the most comfortable. |

It was off to bed. Some folks left that day. Marie, Kathy, Barbara and I were headed out on Monday morning.
Monday
Monday morning, I had breakfast at the Philly Station and was joined by the owner of Lost in Roslyn (an awesome little store where I got my fairy dust and some really jazzy shoes). I met up with the remaining folks at Memory Makers, where James was disassembling the billboard he bought (among a lot of other things).
|
James breaks down the billboard to make the trip home. |
James gets a really gross owwee. It was bubbling blood and it was GROSS. |
As always, the weekend goes way too fast. There were many good quotes.
James: "I got more hair on my a** than I do on my head."
After watching Kurt and I compare our palm pilots, Linda pipes up: "I have a chalkboard next to my phone!"
Finally, I came up with an idea for a tail-cam to attach to Justices' tail for the back end of the dog's point of view. I thin we were watching Retriever Trials on ESPN 2 at Marcos Bar ...
As always, there was a great group of people. I have a ton more pictures then are here. Hopefully we'll see each other again in 2002!
