We started looking for a new home around 1999.  After a lot of looking, we decided building again might be the way to go.

The problem we saw was that we needed to find a lot with the following features:

We could NOT find a lot with these features.  Most available lots were already owned by builders and part of a community that didn't allow you to hold onto the lot.

Just when we were about to give up (April 2002), one of our favorite builders offered us the ability to purchase a lot that he was under contract to buy from another builder. He preferred not to purchase the lot without a buyer. So, we were able to purchase the lot with low closing costs.

The next month, we found out JoAnn was pregnant with twins.  The plan for the 21 months became to see what financial impact a family had on us to determine how much house we could really afford.

In April of 2004, we settled on Bruce Lenzen to build our home. We worked with Bruce for the next several months to finalize a design specific to our needs.  The following PDF files are our actual plans:

Construction began in December, 2004. We're estimating completion in August, 2005.
