The league will consist of 6-12 tournaments over the coming 9-15 months.

At the end of the 2005-06 season, 8 players will participate in a winner-take-all championship freeroll (currently estimated to be MD600).  The winner of the championship will also receive a trophy commemorating their accomplishment.

NEW! Who will these 8 players be? Seven of them will be the top seven league point leaders after tournament #6. One of them will be the winner of a heads-up tournament consisting of the players who land in spots 8 though 15.

Championship table format: 8 players, each starting with T2000.  Using the same blinds schedule we use in each tournament.

Heads-up tournament format: Single-elimination tournament. 8 players, each starting with an amount of tournament chips proportional to their league point total. Players will be seeded according to finish in the league standings. Blinds will accelerate relatively quickly so that each match lasts no more than 30 minutes.  Entire tournament expected to last 90 minutes.

Throughout the season, 10% of each prize pool is scraped off the top to contribute to the season-ending championship.

Players are ranked in each tournament using the following formula:

score = (sqrt(((a * b) * (b / c))) / (d + 1.0))

where

a = Tournament Buy-in Count
b = Player Buy-in Expense
c = Player Total Expense
d = Player Finish

A player's score for the league is the sum of all their tournament scores.

Use the "League Points Calculator" in the upper right to calculate your possible points for a tournament!

In general, the formula rewards players who:

  • Last longer in a tournament
  • Play in more tournaments (you can't win once and sit out the rest of the season)
  • Do better in larger tournaments (the winner of a 16-player MD20 buy-in tournament will get more points than the winner of a 10-player MD20 buy-in tournament)
  • Do just as well in higher buy-in tournaments (the winner of a 16-player MD40 buy-in tournament will get more points than the winner of a 16-player MD20 buy-in tournament)
  • Purchase fewer add-ons and rebuys (as seen in "The Organ Stop", Harold Neau finished higher in the standings than Don Lundgren, but Don received more points because he did not purchase an add-on or a rebuy)

Another league prize: The person who eliminates the most players throughout the season will receive a special prize.

First time for 3 tables at Steve's place.  I will say that after 3 hands I predicted that Jill was going to win.  Too bad her fiancee isn't that good...she probably won't come anymore because he's too embarrassed by his showing...
