Also, a special call out to the player with the most hits...The Eradicator,
Steve Dauplaise

The Eradicator
This ranking system uses a logarithmic scale. Ask me if you
want more info on it. What's nice about it: You aren't penalized for missing a
tournament and you get more credit for winning a large tournament than a small
tournament (which is why I'm only in 8th place even though I won the first two
tournaments.)
We've played 12 tournaments. You need to have played in at
least 2 of the tournaments to qualify.

Sofa Queen Jodi Backman made a good showing on her first
outing, coming in 2nd. She couldn't figure out Harold's play.
Memorable Quotes
- "Oh yeah? Well here's the funny part...I
call!" - Steve D. calling Brian L. Steve had rockets in his
pocket and was happy to see that Brian had a pair of mop squeezers,
until Brian got his third queen on the river...eliminating Steve.
- "My nickname is 'Sofa Queen'" - Jodi making
here well-earned nickname public. She later explained its
origin...turns out it wasn't as bad as it sounded.
- "Check in the dark...I haven't looked at my hand
yet." - Steve D.

| Thanks to Paul for hosting another one.
No thanks to him for beating my full house with a royal flush.
Bastard.
Harold finally won a tournament, although he still
thinks Hold'em is risky dink.
Steve maintained he Eradicator title for another
tournament, although Jeff gained a little ground on him.
That's all the notes I have from this one, since it took
me nearly three weeks to post the results. |

| It finally came around for Steve Dauplaise.
After several terrible finishes and a few not-so-bad finishes, he wiped up
the competition tonight by single-handedly eliminating 8 of the 16 players
he opposed to claim his first tournament win.
One of the new players, Sue McLinn, claimed to not know
how to play. She actually contacted Jeff via the internet the day
before the tournament...her story was that she happened upon his
website while trying to figure out where to dispose of electronic
equipment. After her 4th-place finish, we now know a more likely story is
that she was looking for local poker tournaments on the internet and
discovered that her old high-school acquaintances hosted a semi-monthly
tournament and she figured she'd get in and clean house.
The tournament got off to a sad note as Ed Osebold lost
a Chuhu Challenge ® on the 2nd hand of the game. Former champions Vic
Fink and Brian Lindenmeyer were out soon thereafter.
After the break, Jeff lost the remainder of his stack to
Nafe Hagen and then Steve went on his rampage by ousting 8 of the
remaining 10 opponents. We hadn't seen such a display of poker wizardry
since the last tournament.
Thanks for hosting again, Steve!
Memorable Quotes
- "I'm the big sac!" - Steve Dauplaise, after
one too many beers, trying to say he's to the left of the small blind.
- "You gotta put that quote on the
website!!!" - Several people who will now be mad that I couldn't
remember the quote.
- "There's only one card that can beat
me....f*c& it, I'm all in. F*C&! F*C&! There goes my
ranking!" - Brian Lindenmeyer, losing to Sue McLinn
- "You can't tell someone how much is in the
pot!" Chuhu Lo...another one of his unorthodox rules.

| After considerable pressure from coworkers, Steve decided
to host another tournament on short notice. We felt fortunate to get 12
players.
This time, Steve experimented with add-ons. Buy-in was a
mythical $40 with a mythical $10 add-on available for the first two hours.
Each hit paid a mythical $10.
This tournament was unique in that it took an unusually
long time for the first player to be eliminated. Was it good play, or
timid play? Nick Johnson finally stepped up to the challenge and
lost. At the other table, newcomer Dean was cleaning up. He took his
commanding lead to the final table after knocking out the Martinson
brothers.
As we approached the money with 5 players left, Jeff and
Don were on the short stack while Dean, Chris and Tom each had a sizable
stack. The antes and blinds were really hurting Jeff and Don. After
Jeff nearly cleaned Don out in a cripple fight, Don was down to his final
75 and had to go all-in on the ante. Luckily, Don was dealt pocket Jacks
and septupled-up. Unfortunately, he was all-in for the big blind on the
next hand and was dealt crap. Now in the money, Jeff took a chance with
King-high on the next hand but lost to inevitable champion Dean.
Soon after, Dean eliminated the remaining
competition.
Memorable Quotes
- "Thanks, Chris. I always wanted to get peed on
by you." - Steve Dauplaise
- "Hey Jeff, why the hell did we trade in the $5
chips if the small blind is $25???" - Brian Lindenmeyer, not
realizing that 25 is divisible by 25 (we had $25 chips...)
- "Hey! Why are we doing <this>??? Why
<that>??? Why don't you do <this>??? You should've
done <that>!!" - Brian Lindenmeyer
- "Grrrrrrrrrrr" - Andy Martinson

Champion Dean Henkel ripped through the competition. At least he won with
a good hand.

Jeff Neau, Brian Lindenmeyer, Dean Henkel, Tom Streetar, Chris Picard and

| Tyson was back, and so was no-limit poker. Steve threw
together a small event to coincide with Tyson's return to greatness. Steve
raked $50 from the pool to pay for the pay-per-view.
Buy-in was a mythical $40 with a mythical $10 for each
hit. Each player received T1000 in chips.
Much to Brian Newton's chagrin, we started with 20
minutes of limit play with 5/10 blinds since we had two new players. Brian
simply couldn't handle the fixed raises and kept trying to bet more than
the limit. Brian seemed more pleased when we started no-limit play with
10/20 blinds...but unfortunately he was knocked out immediately by Chris
Picard. We proceeded to rag on Brian as he dealt for the next hour.
Confident Brian Lindemeyer was next out followed by
newcomer Rick Pederson (both knocked out by Jeff Neau). Cory Martinson
proceeded to knock out Steve Dauplaise and Chuhu Lo in quick succession.
Then we took a short break to watch Tyson get whooped.
Too bad nobody took Lindemeyer up on his 100-1 odds midway through the
first round.
We had the most exciting hand of the night when we
returned to the table. With four players remaining (Al Ellerass, Chris,
Cory and Jeff) and Jeff under the gun pre-flop, chip-leader Jeff raised
the T100 blind to T200 (holding 10-J of hearts). Al Elleraas raised all-in
holding about T750 in chips. Chris Picard raised Al holding a little more,
and Cory raised Chris holding a few hundred more than Chris. Jeff quickly
folded, knowing the result of this hand could only be good for those who
sat out. The players turned up their cards: Al held 10-10, Chris held A-A
and Cory held K-K. The flop started to come down...1st card: K of
hearts...Cory said "Whoo hoo!". 2nd card: A of hearts...Chris
said "Whoo freakin' hoo!!"...Jeff now would've had a flush draw
with a possible straight flush...Al needed 2 tens and Cory needed another
K...3rd card: 6 of diamonds (no help to anyone)...4th card: 10 of
clubs...(Cory now had Ks full of 10s, Chris had 3 aces and Al had 10s full
of Ks)...5th card: A of spades. Final hands: Chris: Four Aces, Cory: Kings
full of Aces, Al: 10s full of Aces. Chris nearly tripled up taking the
chip lead. Al was knocked out and Cory took a huge hit.
20 minutes later, Chris knocked out Cory. Jeff lasted
another 11 minutes before going all in and losing to Chris' Q-7 unsuited
(see the picture).
Thanks to Steve for hosting!

We didn't know why John Williams was standing at the door as
we walked in. We later learned it was so that he could collect our asses and
hand them back to us later. 12 people showed up. Of the 11 people John
opposed, he eliminated 7 of them on his own. Never has one seen such a display
of poker wizardry.
New comer John McGee was the first out (Mr. McGee made Steve
angry, and we don't like Steve when he's angry), but he'll do better next time.

After initially worrying about how we would handle up to 30 players, we only
ended up with 13 due to several people backing out in the last few days.
Buy-in was a mythical $50 with a mythical $10 for each hit. Each player
received T1000 in chips.
We split into two tables. Table 1 had Jeff Neau, Jeremiah
Johnson, Ron Monkman, Chuhu Lo,
Chris Picard and Steve Dauplaise. Table 2 had Harold Neau, Don Lundgren, Matt
Messerli, John Williams, Vic Fink, Nick Johnson
and Brian Lindemeyer.
Our starting time was delayed due to a horrible stench wafting into the room
from down the hall. This caused a few players to become light-headed. Play
finally started at 6:45pm. The first hour was low limit play (once again, for
people to get used to the flow and dealing before it really mattered). Still,
Table 2 had some large pots and someone could have easily gone out before
no-limit play started. Table 2 seemed to be playing a bit more aggressively than
Table 1, as 4 of the first 5 players were knocked from Table 2.
Brian Lindmeyer still seemed affected by the horrible stench as he continued to
insist that the orange chips were yellow.

Thanks again to Steve for hosting.
So I listen to my voicemail at 5:45pm: "Jeff, we're having a tournament
at 6:30. Can you make it??". I throw my stuff into the car and
fly across town. Felt like showing up for a round of golf without having a
chance to warm up!
Buy-in was a mythical $40. No payout to the loser this time...you only got
rewarded for winning. 50% for 1st, 30% for 2nd and 20% for 3rd, with a
mythical $10 for each hit.
The pots followed the big blind for the first five hands, but Cory Martinson broke
that trend after buying in late. Ryan L looked like a likely winner early
on, but was knocked down a notch after losing to Jeff Neau's 5-high straight on the
river (the same hand took David J out of the game).
Meanwhile, Chuhu Lo tried to distract everyone with his unorthodox
energy-saving methods, like dealing out the flop, turn and river in advance so
that all he had to do was flip them over when it was time. He was
summarily shot down by the entire table.
Control then slowly shifted over to Brian Lindemeyer as he knocked out the next four
players, winning his mythical money back on hits alone. Jeff tried to get in the
money by waiting for Steve and Cory to knock each other out, but neither could
finish the other off (until later that evening, whatever that means). Jeff
finally had to go all-in with a less than stellar hand and was narrowly knocked
out by Steve. Steve was on a tear, stealing blinds left and right. When Brian finally did challenge him, Steve slapped him aside like Courtney James with a
phonebook. It was now down to Steve and Cory. Cory slow-played his pocket aces,
getting Steve to raise him all-in which Cory quickly called and won.
Memorable? Quotes
- "What's wrong with dealing out everything at once?" - Chuhu Lo
- "I'm all in" - Steve D may have set a tournament record for
going all in

Well, it wasn't exactly Steve's Revenge. In fact, the first three players out
were all named Steve. The odds of that happening were 0.2%!
Notes on play of game
We started at 6:30pm. Buy in was a mythical $40 to get T1500 in chips. The
players split into two tables with Stephen Knaup, Steve H, Brian Lindemeyer, Jeff
Neau, Chris Picard,
Paul Gergen, Andy Martinson and Matt Messerli at one table with Steve Dauplaise, Hamlet D, Jeff
Kruesel, Joe L,
Brad X, Cory Martinson, Brian N and Vic Fink at the other.
Play was pretty slow at the beginning. A few people hadn't played
before and needed to get familiar with the flow and dealing, but the major slowing factor is
that it simply takes a lot longer to play a hand with eight people than it
does with five.
Brian Lindemeyer looked like an early favorite after knocking out Stephen Knaup (who was
an odds-on favorite to make the top three himself), but Brian Lindemeyer was knocked out by
Paul Gergen soon after when Paul held onto his 5-4 and turned it into magic. At the other table, Steve Dauplaise continued his streak of
finishing in the bottom two. Thanks for hosting, Steve!
Two-time champion Jeff Neau dropped out after going all-in before the flop with
an A-K up against Paul Gergen's Q-Q. Paul was a 56% to 43% favorite to win and the
odds held.
The final table took considerably longer this time around. Chris Picard and Vic Fink
played for an hour between the two of them, taking turns in the chip lead. Vic
outlasted Chris, however, to win our biggest tournament yet.
