My paintings are inspired by a deeply felt passion for light, color and mood. Nature provides me with much of my subject matter; I am particularly inspired by the beauty of flowers and the light reflecting off of marshes, ponds and the ocean.  In addition, I have an interest in houses and interesting buildings: who lives in them, what’s going on in there I wonder.

My goal is to share my passion and curiosity with the viewer, conveying my emotional response, creating” visual poetry”.

The need to create art has always been a part of me and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to struggle on in its pursuit. I have also been quite fortunate to have had the experience of studying with many wonderful artist/teachers through the years; I feel their presence at my side when I paint.

I enjoy working in pastels and watercolor. Watercolor has juicy fresh luminous washes; pastels are made of pure pigment, with deep rich intense colors and vibrancy. There is immediacy to these mediums, little preparation is needed. I can jump right in, while my thoughts and feelings are fresh.

“Color creates form.  The eye and soul are caressed in the contemplation of form and color.  The subtle changes of color over a surface….transitions that are like music…are intangible in their reaction upon us.  There is an immediate sensuous appeal.”
