Never Throw Anything Away
Never, ever, throw anything away. Old brittle rubber part? Save it! Rusty floor board panel that is full of holes? Save it! Save everything. But don't get the wrong idea - you'll likely never use these parts again. But how can you be sure? You can't, and there is nothing as tortuous as needing some little rusty do-dad that you "just threw away yesterday." Plus, imagine how many times you could manage to work the phrase "I have a pretty nice collection of spare parts" into swap-meet conversations.

I have found that the best place to store these valuable parts is the small shed that is more commonly used to house a lawn mower and other tools used around the house. As the collection grows, the lawn mower will do just fine in the back yard with a blue tarp draped over it. Lawn mowers are built to take the elements  - 50 year old crusty rubber parts are not.

If you do not have a shed, I am sure that the garage will also perform the same function. Your wife's new car was built to withstand the elements - 50 year old rusty parts were not.
