 Foundation Walls
They have put up boards and poured the concrete for the foundation walls.

I also saw some visitiors to Chatfield Farms while I was there taking photos.

 House Update
They poured some of the concrete and started building the foundation for the house. They also had the window wells and frames for all the basement windows on the property.

 Urban Legends
If you are anything like I am, I regularly receive e-mails from friends and families that have these stories that seem too wild and weird to be true. There are even web sites dedicated to finding out if these stories are true or just urban legends. The reason I bring this up is because of something that happened to me yesterday. You will be scratching your head and saying, so that's where these stories come from. Those of you that are parents will appreciate it doubly.

Yesterday I had the day off with the kids as they are still off-track and we are trying to save some cash and keep them out of full-time day care for the entire month. We had been out and about earlier in the day but in the afternoon we were at home. I was working on cleaning and doing more work to get the house ready to sell while the kids were upstairs playing with each other. At one point, my daughter Lindsay came down stairs crying somewhat. Being the caring father that I am I asked her what is wrong. Side note, she is the drama queen and cries about most everything so this is not unusual. However, she said that she had a bloody nose which indeed she did. I asked her if she was okay and how it happened. She said that I might be mad if I told her. Alarms and bells are going off about now but I try not to let on. I tell her that I won't be mad and need to know so I can help her. She told me she got a pom-pom stuck in her nose and made her nose bleed trying to get it out. I asked if she got it out or if it was still in there. She told me that it was still in there. Trying to keep a straight face I got the tweasers and flashlight to see what I could see and hopefully help her out. I'm not sure about the rest of you, but this is the first time I've looked up somebody else nose actually looking fo something. Even with the Maglite, I could not see a thing and didn't want to just start fishing around her nose hoping to find something. Now, this whole situation didn't seem quite as amusing. I'm having visions of a visit to the doctor or ER just to get this thing out. The kids have never been good at blowing these noses (really good strong blowing). However, I showed Lindsay how to do it again and asked her if she could try. Well on the second blow, the little pom-pom came shooting out of her nose and the $20 co-pay was averted in the process. Her brother immediately pipes up that he learned that you should never stick anything up your nose. A good lesson for all of us!

p.s. I'm not exactly sure what the pom-pom was but I think it was some sort of fuzzy ball that came with a toy. When it came back out it was bloody and gross and I wasn't about to be playing with it.

 Ground Breaking
It has finally happened. They broke ground on the new house today! It seemed like it would never happen but it was exactly within the range that Ryland said it would be (4-8 weeks). It was about 7 1/2 weeks since we signed the contract. However, I think it was stretched out for a couple of reasons. One, our sales rep said the contract would not get turned in until the following Monday so if you start counting from then it is just under 7 weeks. Also, they have sold tons of new lots since opening part II of Chatfield Farms. I think they have sold about 40 new homes since we got ours so they have been pretty busy.

p.s. I think I have fixed the comments on my blog. They were disabled but should be working now. I think I may be fungued something when I changed my blog template but not realize until recently. So I would appreciate the feedback even if you think I'm full of BS and have been smoking too much crack.

 Lack of Blogging
Sorry things have been quite around here for a while but let me summarize what I've been doing the past couple of weeks.
  • Monday - Friday: Go to work, come home, eat, play with and or bath the kids, put the kids down, work on cleaning and getting our house ready to sell.

  • Saturday - Sunday: Run errands, work on the house, go out to eat.

  • Oh what excitement!

     Letters to Farmer Brown
A couple of weeks back the kids where reading Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type. You might want to to quickly read the text if you not familiar with the story. Anyways, the kids had computer class that day, with their book buddies, and the all wrote letters to Farmer Brown (the main character of the story). I had to post them as they are hilarious!

     Dentist and Tooth Fairy
I got to do a little double duty tonight. Lindsay has had a lose tooth for quite a while but it came 99% out tonight just as she was finishing her dinner. With kids a little older, and more experienced with losing their teeth, this is quite a time of excitement. However, this was not the case in the Bullock household. This is just Lindsay's second tooth to come out. The first one was knocked out by a classmate (don't get me started on this little holy terror). Lindsay felt the tooth come mostly out and freaked out. She was afraid to swallow (her tooth) so Suzanne took her to the bathroom to rinse out her mouth and try to get a look at what was going on. Suzanne could tell that the tooth just need a tiny bit of encouragement to completely come out but Lindsay would not have anything to do with it. She was very freaked out with the blood, would not swallow, didn't want to rinse and would not let us near it. After about 45 minutes of trying to calm her down (telling her to trust us and explain that this is normal, which we had explained to her before it ever happened, and bathing her, it was bath night) we had not made any progress. Finally, Suzanne just had to hold Lindsay down while I had the pleasure of grabbing and removing the tooth. It came effortlessly but not without tears from Lindsay and Mommy. Of course after it came out, she finally calmed down and was able to talk to Grammie to tell her the BIG news. Now I have to go make sure that the Tooth Fairy trades a new paper dollar for the old ratty tooth. Wish me luck and hope that I don't wake her up!

BTW, I don't think Alex will ever lose any teeth. He has the most perfect teeth of any human I've seen. He has also been very lucky and has avoided all of the mouth smashes that his sister managed to encounter. The whole time Suzanne and I were dealing with Lindsay, he was running around naked, with the mask he painted over Christmas break, waiting for his bath. Ahhh, the joys of being 5 1/2 (the half is VERY important at this age)!

     2004 Music
Anybody familiar with my music tastes knows that I will always have a spot for classic rock. However, I would like to believe that I have an open mind and am open to new stuff as well. I've been thinking lately that I would review all of the albums that I bought and were also made in 2004. They are ordered by artist:
    AlbumArtistComments
    Under My Skin
    Avril Lavigne
Avril is only 19??? This album rocks!
    Then and Now: 1964-2004
    The Who
I would not have bought this but there are 2 new (average) songs on the album
    So-Called Chaos
    Alanis Morissette
    Best album since her debut
    Sessions for Robert J.
    Eric Clapton
Rocking live versions of Me and Mr. Johnson songs
    Me and Mr. Johnson
    Eric Clapton
    Good old fashioned blues
    Baptism
    Lenny Kravitz
Great new album from Lenny, more rock than roll! I can't wait for the concert.

So you can definitely see the classic rock influence. I know I bought more albums this year but I guess many were older. I think that is mostly because I am always so behind the curve. I do like a lot of new music, I am just not the first one to buy an album unless the artist has a proven track record (with me).

     Nationals
I know that it was just a Spring Training game but the Washington Nationals won their first game! My boy Vinny went 1 for 2. Hopefully they start the real season just as good.

     Chains and Crystal Balls
Last Saturday night, Suzanne and I went to dinner with my parents, brother, and sister-in-law. We were celebrating my Dad's and sister-in-law's b-days. We went to eat at The Fort. It had been several years since I had been but I really enjoyed it (Rocky Mountain Oysters and all) again. I had a buffalo sirloin that was excellent for my entree. We shared some appetizers including the a sampler platter that had Rocky Mountain Oysters (tastes like chicken), buffalo sausage, buffalo tongue, chips with guacamole, and peanut butter stuffed jalapenos in addition to an order of the broiled Asadero Cheese with Fort Toast. For dessert I had that Queso Napolitano. The description reads "a firm flan-like custard made even richer with the addition of cream cheese". I thought it was an incredible combination of flan, cheese cake and creme brulee all in one! Needless to say, I was stuffed. As full as I might have been, we got up the next morning and loaded up the family truckster and went to brunch with my in-laws at Mt. Vernon Country Club. Their brunch has really improved over the last couple of years and they have some amazing views from the main dining room. The kids really like it as well.

So after these two excellent meals it really got me thinking how hard it is to find restaurants that are not chains. The Fort and Mt. Vernon Country Club both definitely qualify. I think my favorite everyday restaurant is Moosehill Cantina. It is local Mexican joint that has inexpensive food that is good quality and they give great service. They started with one tiny restaurant near Colfax and Simms but then built a bigger one at Kentucky and Kipling. Beyond that, there are not many places that I frequently go to that are not chains. This is a combination of the lack of mom and pop restaurants in my area combined with the kids eating habits. I've been telling Suzanne for years that we could make a killing if we opened our own restaurant. Maybe some day we will actually be brave enough to do that.

Enough about chains I wanted to talk about crystal balls for a moment. The kids were playing with Papa (Suzanne's Dad) Saturday night. Lindsay was playing with his hair (what little he has left anyways). He was teasing her and said that she better be careful because his head would turn into a crystal ball. She thought about that for a while and said that would be OK because she wanted to see the future! From the mouths of babes...
