 Gold Medal Chef

We have the first Gold Medal Chef in the family.  Now anybody that knows my wife Suzanne knows how she loves to cook and received straight A's in culinary school.  However, she is not the Gold Medal Chef.  Our son Alex won First Place for Most Creative in his age group for the Boy Scouts annual Cake Contest.  In preparation for this particular event, Suzanne used it as an excuse to buy this really cool stadium cake pan from Williams Sonoma.  They did an awesome job of enhancing a cake that came out with amazing detail.  I will let the photo montage that we were required to do (take a photo of the scout making their cake) show you the rest.

I will mention that except for the toothpicks (AKA flag poles) and the foil soccer ball wrapper, the entire cake is edible!  Congratulations to Alex Bullock, 2007 Tiger Cub Most Creative Cake Contest Winner!  Oh yeah, thanks Mom for the little bit of help you may have provided ;)

 Technology in Sports

So here we are, a month into Spring Training and only about 2 1/2 weeks before the first pitches of the 2007 regular season are thrown (my internal timer is ticking down -- picture a ticking timebomb).  Although professional hockey is in dire straights, one of the cool things they unveiled at this years All-Star game were completely redesigned uniforms that should provide much superior performance and comfort for the players.  MLB played their own cards this winter when they introduced new caps for the first time since 1954.  I even read recently about Jorge Posada has been working with Nike to develop new catching equipment.  It talks about how excited Posada was about a new mask made from titanium.  However, as light as ti is, every good biker knows carbon fiber is as light if not lighter and much sexier.  Even my new bike shoes have carbon fiber!

 Music Week Update

Bo Diddley was amazing.  Even if you don't read any more of this post, at least you got the important part.  The evening started out with dinner at Breckenridge Brewery.  During the drive to dinner, I was asking Steve about the location of the Soiled Dove as I had never been and I didn't think it was where he said it was.  We drove by where Steve knew it once was but it wasn't there any more.  Thankfully their number was on the e-tix that Steve printed so he called and asked.  Instead of being in Lodo, it was out at Quebec and First.  Good thing we had lots of extra time as it was a 9:00 show.  There was a cover band that was a bunch of local boys playing Johnny Cash wanna-be's.  They had skills but the country music was too much for me.  The local boys played 30-45 minutes and were followed closely by Bo.  Bo was a little under the weather with a cold and it definitely affected his voice.  He said that although he wasn't supposed to, he was going to have a little of Grand Ma's Lemonade (Grand Marnier) to help him through the evening.  He is still very much a performer.  He was laughing and smiling most all of the show.  He often played with the Soiled Dove staff and the audience as well.  At one point, he even went back behind the drum kit and helped his regular drummer play for a short while.  Not only did I get to experience all of this, it was from 6 feet in front of the legend for all of the entire show!  I  haven't down loaded my (crappy) photos from my phone but here is one that Steve took.

Bo Diddley

Part Two of music week was this AM as I got a chance at redemption to try and get tickets for the second Police show in Denver.  Luckily, I was able to get two of the cheapest tix ($50) before the show sold out.

Wednesday is Clapton.  I know it will be a good show so music week is a success and it isn't even over.  Rock on!

p.s. It is still the first week in March and I already have two post this month.  Let's see if I can keep up with it...

 Music Week

Tonight kicks off a week three significant musical events.  Tonight, I'm going to see Bo Diddley at the Soiled Dove.  Monday AM I am hopefully getting tickets to go see The Police in June.  Then on Wednesday, I'm taking my sweetie to go see Mr. Clapton yet again.  I figured I would kick off the week with today's Strange Brew.
