Annular Solar Eclipse of May 10,1994
On May 10, 1994, much of North America was treated to a rare celestial spectacle --
an annular solar eclipse. This type of eclipse occurs when the moon is near its apogee, or the farthest point in
its orbit from the earth, and hence appears too small to completely cover the sun's disk. A ring, or annulus, of
bright photosphere remains visible surrounding the moon's black silhouette. There will not be another eclipse of
this type visible from the U.S. until the year 2012. Click HERE or on the title or the
image above to see some photos taken during that event.
