9/68-9/74 Department of History, Yale
University
began as an Acting Instructor and left as an
Assistant Professor; taught Quantitative Methods for Historical Research and
American History; served five years on Yale Computer Center Operations
Committee; awarded American Council of Learned Societies Grant for Computer
Research.
9/74-3/80 Survey Research Center,
University of California
Assistant to the Director; managed both internal and
contract projects; supervised nine data analysts, computer programmers, and
data librarian; designed and implemented data analysis and information
retrieval systems, including CRS POLLS
database; taught introductory graduate course in social science statistics and
computing.
3/80-- Computer Science Research
Department, Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory (LBL)
In addition to the projects listed below, I have
served on various LBL committees, and chaired committees on database management
and library automation.
3/80-9/84 Socio-Economic, Environmental, Demographic
Information System (SEEDIS)
Developed data description language, data
dictionaries, integrated user interface, and management for very large
databases, including the 1970 and 1980 United States Censuses. Helped
coordinate staff of ten, developing reports based on 1980 Census data, with
emphasis on design of system, tables, charts, and text.
1/84-11/88 Principal Investigator, Scientific Information
Research Project
Designed and directed implementation of prototype
Materials Information for Science and Technology (MIST) system, sponsored by
Sandia National Laboratory, U.S. DoE, and National Bureau of Standards. MIST
was the prototype for what is now the Material Properties Data Network of
Chemical Abstracts Service.
12/88-94 Genome Computing Group,
Deputy Head
Database and user interface design. LBL coordinator
for international collaboration on extensions to ACEDB genome database and
graphic display system.
10/89-9/90 Principle Investigator, Data Interchange Standards
Report
Sponsored by National Library Library of Medicine
(NLM), National Center for Biotechnical Information.
10/90-94 Comprehensive Epidemiologic Data Resource Project
(CEDR)
High-level system design, metadata management, liason
with non-DOE users.
9/91-94 Principal
Investigator, USDA Plant Genome Collaborations
Database and software development for Soybean, Wheat
and Forest Tree Genome Projects, in cooperation with LBL's Human Genome Center
and LBL projects on Human and Drosophila genomes.
9/95- Principal
Investigator, Cotton Genome Database Project [currently 0.5 FTE]
Database and software development for Cotton Genome
Resarch Project at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
