Declaration for Invalid Pension No. 565,007 - Franklin McGrawState of __ Tennessee ________, County of___________ Campbell_________In the matter of Claims for Pension No. 498,839 of Franklin McGraw, Company. H. 9 Tennessee Cavalry Personally came before me, a___ Justice of the Peace____ in and for aforesaid County and State, Franklin McGraw aged ______ years citizen of ___Wellspring__, County of Campbell, State of ___Tennessee___, well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn declare in relation to aforesaid case, as follows:That he has not been in the military or naval service of U. S. since his discharge in Sept. 1865. After he was discharged from the United States army in 1865 he joined the Tennessee militia and while at Jackson Tennessee about 1868. While in camp he had a pistol that got out of order and he (had) taken it apart to fix it- and in putting together again it went off accidentally and shot him through the hand and went into his breast. The Doctor probed after the bullet and did not find it – he said it was dangerous to probe after it and the bullet has never been gotten out and thinks it lodged in his back and that the injury to his arm occurred while he was helping to drive some cattle from Cumberlain Gap to Knoxville, Tennessee for the use of the army. This was while he was in the U.S. Service his horse ran upon a rock that was covered with water and fell and that his arm struck upon the rock and received the injury complained of and that those disabilities are not the result of vicious habits.
