Harvey H. Housley

(July 28, 1983) Funeral services for Harvey H. Housley, 81, of Huntsville, Ala., and formerly of West North Street, Fostoria, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Harrold-Floriana Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Thomas Hoover officiating. Burial will be in Weaver Cemetery, Bloom Township (Wood County). Visitation will be held from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where Masonic memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.

Mr. Housley died at 11:15 p.m. Thursday at his home. He was born April 15, 1902 to John F. and Anna (Baldwin) Housley. He married Glada M. Conrad on Sept. 1, 1928 in North Baltimore, and she died June 10, 1980.

Surviving are a son, John A. of Huntsville, Ala.; a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Anna Mae) Andrews, Waterville; four sisters, Mrs. Pearl Andrews, Mountain Grove, Mo.; Mrs. Ethel Davis, Van Zant, Mo.; Mrs. Nettie Peebles, Huntington Beach, Calif.; Jean Holmes, Happy Camp, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Housley was retired from Union Carbide, Fostoria, where he had been an electrician. He had lived in Alabama two years, moving there from Fostoria. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, and Fostoria Lodge 288 F&AM. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Society.

Mrs. Anna Housley

(Dec 4, 1951) Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Housley, for many years a resident of Mountain Grove, were held in the First Baptist Church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Reverend Ercil Barker officiating. Burial was made in Clifty Hall cemetery under direction of the Barber Funeral Home. Anna Baldwin Housley was born at Fincastle, Tennessee on March 20, 1870 and died at Mountain Grove, Missouri on December 4, 1951 at the age of 81 years, 8 months, 14 days.

She spent her early life in Powells Valley, Tennessee and taught school at Jellico in the mountainside near the Kentucky border. In this school, Homer Rodehaver the song writer, was one of her pupils. In January, 1893, she left her school in Tennessee and came to Missouri to marry John Franklin Housley who had come to Missouri the previous year to take up a homestead. They began their life together in a cabin near Prior, Missouri, later known as the Bausley place. Later they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, but came back to Missouri and lived in Douglas County until Mr. Housley's death in October 1939. Mrs. Housley then left the farm and moved to Mountain Grove where her main interest was church and Sunday school. Since early girlhood she has been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, and missed very few Sundays since moving to Mountain Grove.

She is the last of a large family of brothers and sisters to pass away, but she leaves seven children out of family of eight: Mrs. Dora White, St. Charles, Mo. and Mrs. Pearl Andrews and Mrs. Ethel Davis, Mtn. Grove, Mo., Harvey Housley, Fostoria, Ohio, Mrs Nettie Peebles, Huntington Beach, California, Mrs. Zenobia Holmes, Etna, California and Duncan Housley of Little Rock, Arkansas,

Gilbert, the oldest son, died in 1930 from casualties received in World War I.

Gilbert Housley

(April 10, 1930) William Gilbert Housley, son of John F. and Anna Housley, was born in Parker County, Texas, Jan. 6 1890 and moved to Missouri when a child. He was reared in Douglas county and enlisted in the World War when 21. He died on the 10th day of April, 1930, being 34 years, 4 months and 4 days of age when the last came. He had always been a Bible reader and a believer in Christ. He repented during his sickness and passed away like he was asleep.

He left father, mother, five sisters and two brothers: Mrs Ray White and Mrs. Daly Andrews of Mountain Grove; Mrs. A. F. Davis, Prior, Mo.; Mrs. Roy Peebles and Mrs. E.V. Harmon, Oildale, Calif; and Harvey and Duncan Housley both of Baltimore, Ohio

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. W.T. Estes and burial took place at Clifty Hall Friday afternoon.

Dora Housley White

(July 8, 1977) Dora Genevra (Housley) White was born in a one room log cabin in Prior, Douglas County, Missouri February 6; 1894, the first of eight children born to John Franklin Housley and Anna Baldwin who came to homestead in Missouri from Duff, Tenn. Dora attended rural schools at at Oak Grove, Clifty Hall and Pleasant Valley, her home farm joining corners with these three districts. She at tended high school at Ava, and at the age of 16, taught her first class at Holt School in East Douglas County. There followed a long and dedicated teaching career in Glendale, Fairmount, Pleasant Hill Shady Grove, Mountain Grove, Cabool and St. Charles, Missouri, New Castle, Colorado and Beaufort, South Carolina. While teaching in St. Charles, she attended Washington University in St. Louis where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1918 she married James Raymond (Ray) White, a local man born and raised in the Prior vicinity. Their only child, James, was born in 1921 while they were living in Mountain Grove. At home. in Mountain Grove, she has been continually involved in church, professional and civic activities. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Business and Professional Women, Sorosis, Eastern Star, Retired Teachers Assoc., Youth Center Board, and the HUD Board of Directors, of which she was chairman. She was a driving force in the establishment of McEldo, Ridgecrest and Whispering Oaks low cost and elderly housing projects, as well as the new Senior Citizens Center. She was instrumental in getting the state flag flown over the poultry station. In 1965-66 she was named Woman of The Year and has had a living endowment established in her honor. For many years she was United Fund chairman and her most recent honor came as Grand Marshal of the 1976 Christmas Parade. She leaves to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren a treasure of hand worked quilts, afghans, linens and ceramics, On December 5, 1976 she was stricken with a paralyzing stroke, followed by a heart attack on July 6, 1977 She died in Houston Hospital. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Betty Jane White, Philadelphia, Penn.; three granddaughters; Patricia Lee Rafferty, Allison Park, Penn., Lucia Anne Williams, Philadelphia, Penn., Rebecca Jane Kier, Indiana, Penn., four great-grandchildren, Michael James and Kirsten Lee Rafferty, Sean Patrick and Erin Patricia Williams; a brother Harvey Housley of Fostoria, Ohio; four sisters, Ethel Davis and Pearl Andrews of Mountain Grove, Nettie Peebles, of Huntington Beach, California, and Jean Holmes of Happy Camp; California. Funeral service for Dora White were held at 2 p.m. Monday; July 11 in the Craig Hurtt-Hutsell Chapel with Doctor Jack Phillips officiating. Betty Dale sang "In The Garden" and "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan. Alone". Mrs. Charley Franklin was the organ accompanist.

Glada Conrad Housley

(June 10, 1980) Glada M. Housley, 72, 810 W. North St., Fostoria, died at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday at Medical College of Ohio, Toledo.

She was born May 13, 1908 in North Baltimore, to Alva and Bertha (Savial) Conrad. She married Harvey Housley on Sept. 1, 1928, and he survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Anna) Andrew, Perrysburg; a son, John of Athens, Ala. eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Conrad, Florida; and a sister Mrs. Francis (Anna) Barger, Findlay.

Mrs. Housley was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Fostoria, and the King's Daughters.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Harrold-Baker Funeral Home, Fostoria, the Rev. Floyd Fought officiating. Burial will be in Weaver Cemetery, near Bloomdale. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today and from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the church.

John Franklin Housley

(October 19, 1939) John Housley of Douglas county died last Thursday at his home where he had lived for the past 30 years. He was one of Douglas county’s well-respected citizens and will be missed in his home community, and his home rural district school. Mr. Housley was either a school director or school clerk of the Pleasant Valley school for the past 30 years. John Franklin Housley was born in Claiborne county Tennessee, June 12, 1868. He moved to Douglas County, Missouri at the age of 22 and homesteaded near Prior. On January 5, 1893 he married Anna Baldwin whom he had known in Tennessee. From then until the present time they lived near the same locality with the exception of two years in Texas. He had been in failing health for the past year and passed away at his home near Goodsville, Thursday morning, October 19, 1939 at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 7 days. He is survived by his wife, seven children and twin brothers, Phillip of Springfield and Pleas of Goodsville, and eight grandchildren. The children are Mrs. Roy Peebles of Huntington Beach, California; Mrs. Harry Kucera of Hollywood, California; Duncan Housley of Whittier, California; Harvey Housley of Fostoria, Ohio; Mrs. Adnea Davis of Prior, Mrs. Dora White and Mrs. Daly Andrews of Mountain Grove, Mo. Gilbert, the second child, died from affects of the World War.

Mr. Housley was a member of the old General Baptist church established at Clifty Hall some forty years ago. He was widely known in this and the surrounding territory, having been Justice of Peace for the past thirty years and active in other civic affairs. Mrs. White, Mrs. Andrews, and Mrs. Davis were with him at the time of his death. The other children had been home recently and had not planned to return.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. M.Q. Kent at the Clifty Hall school house and burial was in the cemetery near the by under the direction of the Botten Funeral Home.

Pearl Housley Andrews

(March 6, 1986) Funeral services for Pearl Andrews were held at 3p.m.Monday,March 1O in the Craig-Hurtt Hutsell-Dedmon chapel with Reverend Edwin Cline officiating. Edsel Yeager sang "Where We'll Never Grow Old" and "The Unclouded Day." Mrs. Charley Franklin was the accompanist. Pallbearers were Harry Simpson, Evan Williams, Jim Kendrick, Gaylen Neher, Chris Hoeph, and Dan Davis. Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of CraigHurtt-Hutsell-Dedmon Funeral Home. Pearl Housley Andrews, daughter of John F. and Anna (Baldwin) Housley, was born February 6, 1898 in - Mountain Grove, Missouri, and departed this life March 6, 1986 in the Kabul Nursing Home, Cabool, Missouri, following a short illness. She was 88 years of age. Pearl attended and taught school in Douglas County. She married Daly Andrews on May 16, 1921 at Houston, Missouri. They resided on a farm in Douglas County until moving to Mountain Grove several years ago, where Daly was a partner in the Heeger-Andrews Machine Shop. Mr. Andrews preceded her in death on November 30, 1980. Pearl loved home life and was active in community affairs. She was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed raising flowers. Pearl was strong in character and seemed to always be doing for others. She had a great sense of humor and made life more enjoyable for those that knew her. Pearl had a deep sense of responsibility which was evident by her patriotism and by the way she cared for her husband.

John Golden Housley

(April 16, 1956 ) Funeral services for Duncan Housley, widely known Mountain Grove resident, were held at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Memorial Chapel of the Barber Funeral Home with Reverend Earl T. Biven, officiating. Lester Maddox sang appropriate hymns accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Clyde Acuff.

Concluding services followed in the Clifty Hall cemetery. Pallbearers included Chester Reed, Edgar Worman, Jack Sutherland, Albert Hunsuker, Charlie Housley, and David Davis.

John Golden, generally known as Duncan Housley, son of John and Anna Housley was born near Prior, Missouri, April 26, 1906 and passed away at the Veteran's Hospital Little Rock, Arkansas, April 11, 1956, lacking two weeks of being fifty years old.

His early life was spent in Douglas county but as an adult he worked with the American Telephone and Telegraph Co., in Ohio and Michigan an later going to the oil fields of California. He was drafted into the service and served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He was sent back as a casualty in May, 1944 and since then has spent most of the time in the Veterans Hospitals. He spent the winter in Mountain Grove and apparently was much improved in health. Upon his return to the hospital routine examination showed a tumor on the right lung. The lung was removed March 14 followed by a second operation the next week. The immediate cause of death was aspirated pneumonia.

Duncan was the seventh child in a family of eight. He leaves to mourn his death five sisters, Mrs. Dora White of Saint Charles, Mo., Mrs. Daly Andrews and Mrs. Adnea Davis of Mountain Grove; Mrs Roy Peebles of Huntington Beach, California; Mrs. Clifford Holmes, Happy Camp, California and a brother Harvey Housley, Fostoria, Ohio. Another brother, Gilbert, died April 10, 1930 from the effects of service in World War I.
