Calista (Swander) Bowser (Tiffin Daily Tribune - May 11, 1917) Mrs. Calista M. Bowser, 70, years old, widow of James M. Bowser, died at her home, 416 Sycamore Street, Thursday evening at 5:30 o'clock. Her death was due to a complication of diseases. She was confined to her bed for two weeks. Mrs. Bowser was born April 11, 1847 and was the daughter of Edward and Hannah (Lang) Swander, pioneer residents of this county. She was married Sept 27, 1866 to Mr. Bowser who died nine years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William Baltzall, and the following brothers and sisters, James Swander, Kenton; John Swander, Van Wert, Otto Swander, Attica; William Swander, and Mrs. D. P. Rickenbaugh, Hudson, Michigan, and Mrs. Archie Best and Mrs W. H. Youman, of this city. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at three o'clock at her home, conducted by Rev. Chalmers E. Frontz. Burial will be made in Greenlawn, cemetery and will be private Thomas Swander (Seneca Advertiser, January 9, 1879) - Death of Thomas Swander: We are again called upon to chronicle the death of another old pioneer of our county, that of Thomas Swander, so well and favorably known by a large circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the county. The sad even occured on Saturday evening, just four months after the death of his wife,with whom he lived happily for over 51 years and who celebrated their Golden Wedding in the summer of 1877.Mr. Swander was born in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, and came to this county in the Spring of 1833, when it was a comparative wilderness. He settled upon the farm on which he died, then but a forest, and by his energy and industry cleared it, adn made it one of the best in that section. At the time of his death he was aged 73 years, 1 month and 3 days, and a resident of the county over 45 years. He was a man of many good qualities and many warm and devoted friends, and was strictly hones and upright in all his dealings. In politics, he was Democratic of the old school, and at one time represented his party as Infirmary Director. His funeral occurred on Tuesday and was very largely attended.
John SwanderDeath of a Venerable Man (Seneca Advertiser, June 24, 1859) On Tuesday, the 15th, Mr. John Swander, the father of our esteemed friends, Thomas and Edward Swander, died in this township at the advanced age of 83 years. He was a good citizen, much respected by all who knew him. He was a life-long Democrat and had cast his vote for every Democratic President from Jefferson down to James Buchanan
Caroline (Swander) Sohn (April 18, 1912) Mrs. Caroline Sohn, widow of the late William Sohn died at her home at No. 311 Sandusky St, Wednesday at eight o'clock. Death was caused by infirmities of old age, and while the deceased had been in poor health since the first of last February, her death was unexpected. She was aged 87 years and 19 days and was born in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania March 29, 1825. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Swander, being the last survivor and youngest of a family of twelve children. In 1840 the deceased came to this county with her parents who settled in a farm two and one half miles east of the city, the trip from Pennsylvania being made over the mountains in wagons. In 1847 she was united in marriage to the late William Sohn, who brought her as a bride to the residence in which she died and in which she lived for the whole of her married life. She is survived by six children, three sons, John F. and Joseph B. of this city, and William H. of Wauseon and three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hart, Mrs. M. F. Pittenger and Miss Lina Sohn, all of this city. Three grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren survive also.
Otto F. Swander Otto Frederick Swander, 77, former resident of Tiffin, did very suddenly Tuesday in the home of his son, Perry Swander, in North Fairfield. He had been in failing health for several years but at no time was his condition considered critical. His death occurred on his 57th wedding anniversary. Mr. Swander was born on December 4, 1862, and was one of a large family of children of Edward H. and Hannah (Lang) Swander. His mother was a sister of the late Judge William H. Lang. Mr. Swander was married February 14, 1882 to Alice Viola Miller, daughter of the late Peter Miller, and she died 35 years ago leaving him with a family of 11 young children, nine of whom are now living. A daughter, Crystal Belle, died 33 years ago at the age of 20 years, and another daughter, Lovina Viola, wife of Harvey Remsburg, died two years ago. Surviving are the following sons and daughters, Mrs. LeRoy Swabley, Mrs. Evans Weaver, and Vere Swander, all of Tiffin; Mrs. Ralph Lawrence, Dearborne, Mich.; Fred O., Cleveland; Ralph and Perry, both of North Fairfield; Franklin Swander and Mrs. Olive Croxton, Havana, O.; a sister, Mrs. Nettie Rickenbaugh, Hudson, Mich.; a half-sister, Mrs. Archie Best, Tiffin; two step-sisters, Mrs. Watson Youman, Tiffin; and Mrs. Rilla Knouse, of Valley Fall, Kansas; 22 grand-children and six great grand-children. Funeral services are to be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the First English Lutheran church here of which Mr. Swander was a member. The services will be conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne O. Kantner and Rev. F. R. Casselman. Interment will be in Greenlawn.

Etillia (Swander) Trexler(Tiffin Weekly Tribune - June 24 1886) On June 14, in Tiffin, west side, Mrs. Etillia Trexler, aged 75 years, 8 months and 5 days. She was the daughter of John Swander, who came to Clinton township at an early day. She was born in Lehigh county, Pa. In 1870 her husband, the late Francis Trexler, died and after leading a faithful life she passes, after a lingering illness, to her rest in Jesus. She leaves four children, three daughters and one son, to mourn her departure to the better land.
Mary Ann (Swander) Snyder(Tiffin Daily Tribune, December 11, 1906) Mrs. Mary A. Snyder one of Seneca County's most highly respected pioneers, died of old age at the home of her daughter, Mrs. N. B. Conrad, in Fostoria, Monday Dec. 10, 1906, at 1:15 o'clock, aged eighty three years, eight months and twenty-two days. The deceased was born in Lehigh county, Pa. on March 18, 1823, and came with her parents, the late Mr and Mrs John Swander, to this county in 1840. The trip was made over the mountains in wagons and the family endured many hardships on the way. They came directly to Seneca county and settled on a farm, two and a half miles east of Tiffin. The deceased was united in marriage to William Snyder and to this union were born seven children, four of which survive. In 1883 Mr. Snyder and family removed to St. Louis, Mich., and thirteen years ago he died, since which time Mrs Snyder resided with her children, most of the time in Findlay and Fostoria. The husband of the deceased was for many years a prominent resident of this county and for a long time was proprietor of the Mohawk Mill in Eden Township. The mill was burned down in 1878 and was located on what is now the Randall farm. Mrs. Snyder was one of a family of ten children and Mrs. Caroline Sohn of Sandusky Street is the only surviving member of the family. Dr. John L. Swander and Edward H. Swander were nephews of the deceased, and Mrs. Benjamin Falkner who was buried this afternoon, was her niece. The surviving children are Edward of Tiffin, Mrs N. B. Conrad, Fostoria, Walter T., Hudson, Mich., and Judge John D. Snyder of Findlay. The funeral will be held at the home of her daughter, in Fostoria, Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock, Rev. E.H. Zechiel, of the Reformed church, officiating. The body will be brought to Tiffin on a special car at one o'clock and interred in Green Lawn Cemetery. (December 13, 1906) The funeral of Mrs. Mary A. Swander was held in Fostoria this morning, Rev. E. H. Zechiel officiating. The body was brought to this city on the T. F. & E. electric railway, at one o'clock this afternoon and taken to Green Lawn where interment took place
Lovina (Swander) RemsburgLovina Viola Remsberg it stated: Services Tuesday for Mrs. Remsberg. Morrison Road Resident Dies Today. Mrs Lovina Viola Remsberg, 48, wife of Harvey Remsberg of this Morrison Road died at 5:30 a.m. today in Mercy Hospital. Her death was caused by an intestinal strangulation and followed three days of critical illness.
Mrs. Remsberg was born here on March 26, 1888 a daughter of Mr and Mrs Otto Swander. She was married 12/22/1907 and is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. Russell Sawyer, Hazel Zita, and Mary Alyce, both at home. her father, Otto Swander and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Leroy Swabley, Mrs G.E. Weaver, Mrs Jennie Miller and VA Swander all of Tiffin: Mrs Grover Croxton, Attica, Fred Swander, Cleveland, Franklin, Havana, O and Ralph and Perry both of North Fairfield.
Mrs Remsberg had been a member of the First English Lutheran church for 25 years and was a member of the missionary society, the Ladies' aid society and the Ursula Cotta Class.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the residence and at 2:30 p.m. in the Lutheran church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. W.O. Kantner. Burial will be in Greenlawn. (2/20/1937)
James SwanderJames Swander, 77 years, former resident of Tiffin, died Thursday at his home in Kenton. Mr. Swander was born in this city and was a veteran of the Civil War. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Alice Shecklet, Kenton; Mrs. Harry Shuey, of Tiffin, and Orville, of Los Angeles, Cal. He also leaves these brothers and sisters: John, Van Wert; Otto, Attica and Mrs. Nettie Rickenbaugh and William, of Hudson, Mich. The funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:30 and the interment will be made at Green Lawn cemetery, this city.
Edward SwanderDied - At his home, two and one-half miles east of this city, Friday night, March 24, 1899 at 10:40 o'clock, of old age, Edward Swander, aged 84 years and 10 months. He was born in Lehigh county, Pennsylvania, and moved to Ohio in 1842, settling on the farm on which he died. He was thrice married, his present wife's name before marriage having been Mrs. Harriet Ladd. He had thirteen children of whom two died in infancy and one died a short time ago, leaving the following living: Mrs. Amanda Messer, Mrs. James Bowser, Nettie, wife of D. P. Rickenbaugh, Miss Bertha, D. J. Swander; James W. of Kenton, Wm F., of Van Wert county, Ed. T., John H. and Otto , the latter of Scipio. The deceased was one of Seneca County's most highly respected farmers, well known and liked by everybody. He was one of the charter members of the Grace Reformed church here, from where the funeral will be held Monday morning, at 11 o'clock, conducted by Dr. J. H. Steele. Interment in Green Lawn cemetery.
