John was born on August 7th, 1962. He grew up on da southside of Chicago--in the Roseland area. John was the youngest of five, and the only boy. If that wasn't interesting enough, get a load of this--his father was Dutch, and his mother was Italian. Although his father worked hard to support the family, he just couldn't afford to relocate...even when the neighborhood became rough. John grew up attending a Reformed, or Christian Reformed Church...he can't remember which it was. "Maybe it was before the fight, " he jokingly says. In his teen years, he joined the United Methodist Church...while attending a Catholic high school. Even though he was not raised Catholic, special allowances were made to allow him to attend there upon being brutally attacked at the local public school.

Although John grew up attending church, it wasn't until 1982 when he accepted Christ at an Assembles of God youth retreat, thus beginning his Christian journey. It was then that John became very involved in the church youth group, and very active in the drama team. Evers, along with the other drama members would get together just hours before the youth service to write a skit that they could perform. They would rummage through the church lost-and-found box to find articles of clothing and props to be used in the presentation.

Soon after he began his acting training, studying at such prestigious schools as Second City, Victory Gardens, and Act One Studios. John has also trained with some of Hollywood's top casting directors. He has co-directed, written, and performed with the Christian drama team Light Infantry that ministered with the Chicago Outreach as well as area churches. His stage experience includes having traveled nationwide portraying the character "Rounder" in Agape Force Ministries Nathaniel the Grublet. In addition, Agape Force Ministries is also known for other Christian Children's record adaptations including "Music Machine" and "Bull Frogs and Butterflies." Some of Evers' other credits include working in such TV shows and movies as Chicago Hope, Chain Reaction, and To Sir With Love II. He also gained the principal role in a Firestone commercial. Mr. Evers is also a professional clown (Patches D. Clown). After touring with Nathaniel the Grublet, John served on staff at a church overseeing the drama ministry and working with the children's church and youth while working towards his degree in Early Childhood Development.

"As far back as I can remember, my mom always said 'Johnny, you need to learn how to act.' But now that I look back, I'm not sure if this is what she meant."

While teaching a drama workshop, Evers was asked to do standup for an event at a church. John quickly declined, since he never had done standup before...pointing out that doing standup comedy is extremely more difficult than acting. Somehow, a misunderstanding occurred, and John was expected to perform at that particular church (see the story), and that's how it all began. Now, John performs his comedy for churches, groups, and events. (see his resume) With his blend of wit and humor, John connects with his audience as he talks about his own life experiences, and how God gives us the humor to help us get through difficult times in our lives. John's prayer is to not merely entertain, but to encourage fellow believers in Christ, and to introduce people to Jesus.

For almost two and a half years, John was heard Sunday afternoons on am1300, WSYD in Mount Airy, NC. Those who John has interviewed include such personalities as George Huff and William Hung (American Idol), Marshawn Evans and Tana Goertz (The Apprentice), Miss America 2003 – Erika Harold, John Tesh, authors Liz Curtis Higgs and Joey O’Conner, and recording artists Dallas Holm, Stella Parton, and Tammy Trent.

John lives with his wife Lisa, and their two children, Amanda and Isabella.
