Located in the mountains near the Haitian border, the 16 households of this small subsistence farming community established sanitation as their number one need. The project consisted of constructing cement floors for the homes of all residents without them. Twelve households joined with the other four households already with cement floors to construct the floors with cement and a mason provided through a CCF grant of $1,329 and $1,100 community contribution.

Several families stopped work on the floor project, tore down their existing homes, saving beams and posts that were salvageable, received permission to cut trees for lumber needed and constructed new homes.

While the project took longer than anticipated, the result was a phenomenal change in the community. The total cost of constructing the floors was approximately $3,000 (not including volunteer labor) of which CCF provided a grant of $1,329 to pay for cement, a mason and other materials for a CCF cost of $110 per house.
