Nestled high in the coastal mountain range above Puerto Plata, Paso de los Burros is a remote village of 38 families and 140 persons. Community members historically had transported their water from a river several miles distant. 44% of the community had suffered water-borne diseases from the use of contaminated river water. With the help of Peace Corps Volunteer Christina Crow, the community planned a water supply project to improve their community health.

Six community brigades prepared and buried the pipes over the rough terrain bringing potable water to the community for the first time. The project included protection of a new spring source, as well as construction of four kilometers of aqueduct lines, two storage tanks and individual household connections.

The CCF grant of $2,000 leveraged $12,500 in other contributions, including community labor and community assessments for a CCF grant of $53 per family.
