John Rasz and Friends "Rock & Roll Night" @ The Vineyard Cafe

Vineyard senior pastor and musician, John Rasz, will be the featured artist at "Up Close In Concert" at the Vineyard Cafe on Tuesday, March 25. John joined by local musicians they will be playing rock and roll music from the 60's to present.

Also joining in the celebration will be two bands that John played with in the late 60's. It will be the 40th year reunion for John and band members from the groups "The Sons of Liberty" and "The 8th day". The “Sons of Liberty “consisted of Frank DeFede and Dave Buhl on guitar, Glenn Reasner on bass, John Rasz on keyboards and several different drummers. The band was popular throughout the Tri-State area in the late sixties and early seventies. They had a local number one hit called "Love Babe". They were noted for their good vocals and harmony.

The Sons of Liberty added two young women, Melanie Ross and Nancy Petit, to form a new group called “The 8th Day”. They signed with Kapp records in New York City in 1967. The group released three singles and an album. The most popular single was “Raining Sunshine” which was a featured release in Billboard Magazine.

The 8th Day song "Brandy" was re-released in Germany in 2003 as part of a 3 CD collection entitled "The Get Easy Sunshine Collection" that featured popular folk rock songs from 60's. The album is part of what is called 60's Pop Sunshine Nostalgia, which is popular in Germany. Beside the 8th day the album features artists Spanky and Our Gang, the Cowsills, Leslie Gore, Mama's and Papa's, Doc Severinsen and many more. It is one of five volumes that have been released by one German label.

The entire “8th Day” album was re-released in 2006 in Japan, which has a current nostalgia craze for music of the sixties and seventies. The Japanese “8th Day” CD is a complete digital re-mastering of the original album.

John Rasz and Friends Rock & Roll night will be a celebration of rock & roll music with John's musician friends throughout the years.
