As a writer and guitarist, Earl has a signiture style that makes him a unique and engaging performer. He has performed at many Pittsburgh, Ohio Valley and Morgantown venues.

He has five CD compilations, Angels Of Stone, The Trinket Box, Ultraviolets, Inter/Mission, Wednesday (Live @ Down on Mainstreet) and a sixth in the works.

He has won numerous awards for his poetry, including the 2006 Tallahassee Writers’ Award, (the Penumbra Award) and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize. He has published widely and conducts workshops, mostly in the haiku genre, having traveled to Japan as the winner of the Fifth Shiki International Haiku Contest.

"The haiku moment is a freight train of color and image and you are standing on the tracks. The entire train will pass through you and you will be left standing on the trembling trestle of your life holding a little scrap of paper in your hand and on this paper will be the seismic equivalent of what occurred as the train passed through you, the moment you and the train were one. In that moment of forgetfulness and understanding you will know that the train is always passing through you, that the freight car is also the locomotive and the caboose. That time is one."
