Recently Read: A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson

This was a fun and educational read. I hear from more learned friends that there are some factual errors and other issues with the book, but that really didn't bother me any. I think it is a great overall look at the history of science and at what all we know and don't know about our universe. It also, sadly, makes me feel pretty bad about being a human. But I guess that's my problem, not Mr. Bryson's.

32 Years

It's worth noting, I think, that as of today I have been alive for 32 years. I told Heidi that I think I should be hitting my stride any time now. My best guess is I should start getting things figured out at about 33 1/3 years, which would be August of next year. We'll see. At this rate it will have to come in a blinding insight rather than as a gradual understanding or I would have noticed something by now.

Thirty two years used to sound so old, but I think I've done a good job of convincing myself that it is actually not very old at all. So, other than some grey hair and a few extra inches around the middle, I'm still a young man. If you don't agree, please don't share your opinions here today. I'm trying to celebrate a birthday.

Fake cell phone calling

I am easily annoyed by public cell phone use, like on the bus, in elevators, etc., where I am forced to hear half of a conversation that I want no part of. Now, to make matters worse, I find out that a significant number of these calls are faked! What next? People really are strange.

"...(F)ake callers are not so different from a lot of real callers, who are always partly performing for others even as they as they appear to withdraw into their own private space in public."

More commuting, less blogging

I haven't had much spare energy to post to my blog lately. With a new job, new commute, new schedule, etc., I thought it made sense to stop worrying about my "photo a day" project and my blog for a while. But that doesn't mean I've forgotten about it or stopped. Once I get back into a rhythm I will add my blog back in to my day. I also need to get a new, smaller digital camera that is easy to always carry with me so I can start taking more photos. The "objects on my desk" thing was a satisftying outlet for my extreme boredom at my last job, but I hope I can start feeling and acting more creative as I move forward. So... look for more from me in the weeks ahead.
