Roy Brooks
The late Roy Brooks, aka the Mystical Afronaut.
"When I saw Bird as a youngster," he said, "I made up my mind that all I would ever do is play music. Hopefully, music will flourish so the community will see musicians and want to be like them."
Roy Brooks was a drummer extraordinaire, whose playing graced Max Roach's m'Boom, and his own Aboriginal Percussion Choir. He also played with such luminaries as Horace Silver, Chet Baker, Charles Mingus, and Yusef Lateef.
These photos were all from a performance at the Museum of African-American History in Detroit, around 1990.
