Henrik Norbeck's ABC Tunes
Henrik's site is a collection of traditional music, and a fabulous
resource for folk music fans. The site has its roots in ABC
notation, a system of transcribing simple melodies as ASCII text.
It now offers the tunes in several formats, including GIFs of
the sheet music. (There are many ABC sites, and they offer a rich
collection of traditional folk music ... follow the links on
Henrik's site.)
the Music of Cyberspace
This is the home of Michael Walthius, the maestro of MIDI. I have
been marvelling at his work for years ... grabbing each new MIDI
sequence as it appeared on the AOL MIDI file library. This is a
required stop for all net MIDI surfers.
Joe Toto's Surf 'n Swing MIDI
Joe has recently moved to a new URL ... the new site features Joe's
own MIDI sequences. His work has been chosen at least twice for the
"Song of the Month" on the Electronic Music Forum of Microsoft
Network Computing Central. Joe's site includes original jazz, Latin
jazz, surf music, and collaborations with other MSN artists.
(Being a baby-boomer, I must say that I am most fond of his neo-surf
compositions.)
John Roache's Ragtime MIDI Library
This site mostly features John's own MIDI sequences, along with some
of the work of other artists. In his own words, "Some of the finest
ragtime, stride, and swing piano music on the internet." And this is
a modest understatement. John has been an amateur ragtime piano freak
for over 40 years, and has been producing MIDI sequences of this music
since 1994.
MIDIWORLD
This site, produced by Les Winters, features a LARGE selection of
excellent MIDI sequences by many people. Les considers his site to
be pushing the boundaries of "a new musical frontier"; the combination
of electronic music technology with telecommunications equals new
possibilities for artists. In addition to jazz and classical, he
showcases the work of new composers who are "writing" for this medium.
Further, MIDIWORLD is a good resource for MIDI technology generally,
covering hardware and software topics of interest to anyone between
novice amateur and professional musician.
Standard MIDI Files on the Net
This site is the grand-daddy of all links lists, maintained by Charles
Kelly. In his words, "The Internet MIDI Community's Comprehensive List
of Sites With MIDI Files".
