dr_strangelove2.jpg (6088 bytes)A note from the General Secretary

On behalf of America's Polish Racing Drivers, welcome to the home of the Frostbite Falls Chapter.

This is where it all happens, the veritable epicenter of our galaxial efforts to recruit the racing community's riff-raff to our mission. This is where we indoctrinate the legions, train them in guerilla tactics, arm them with state-of-the art weapons, rifle their pockets for loose change. This is where we take raw, untamed emotions and forge them into autonomic reactions to external stimuli. And this is where we deploy them to fight the universal struggle to make tonque-in-cheek a way of life for all.

Join us. Our destiny is your destiny. Resistance is futile.

Yours in adequacy,
George LeRoy Tirebiter

Frostbite Falls Chapter carries on in the tradition of Mother Theresa, George Jones

The Frostbite Falls PRDA Chapter is headquartered in an abandoned horse trailer near suburban International Falls, Minnesota. From this opulent setting, chapter members conduct the secretive affairs of an organization with tentacles reaching out to all corners of the globe.

From its humble beginnings in a army barracks near An Jung-ri, South Korea, in 1971, the FFC has grown into a massive force in the racing world. The shadowy group will not reveal  membership totals, but claims to have infiltrated nearly every organization on the globe.

"It's not outrageous to say that not much gets by us that we know about," says chapter general secretary George Tirebiter with obvious pride.

Only a few organizations have escaped the FFC power grab, and a majority of those because their value to humanity is considered particularly low.

Among these are the national Republican and Democratic Parties, U.S. Congress, all HMOs, and any group that employs a radio or television talk show host.

Actual details of day-to-day operations are obscured by a shield of secrecy and burly security guards, but Tirebiter did volunteer that the FFC is looking for Fortran code writers, brewmasters and biochemists.

Oscar Koveleski is a man of taste. This he proved by wearing plastic fangs to scare motorists who passed his motorhome while towing to races.

Oscar is probably best known for his CanAm efforts, where he raced the #54 McLaren.

He is also remembered by older model car enthusiasts as a mover and shaker in that hobby, and as operator of the Auto World mail order business.

It stands to reason that any organization founded by this paragon of refinement would be equally tasteful and refined.

Unfortunately, as is often the case with racers, reason failed and Oscar was left to establish the Polish Racing Drivers of America in 1970. His trusty lieutenants and Fellow Founding Fathers were Tony Adamowicz and Brad Niemchek.

The PRDA was an attempt to have a little fun with life. It conducted its affairs with tongue firmly in cheek, from lamenting the racing tradition of winning Poles to running in the Cannonball Baker Sea to Shinning Sea Memorial Trophy Dash with a van stuffed with gasoline drums that would -- theoretically, as it turned out -- allow the van to go from the New Jersey to California without refueling.

The Frostbite Falls Chapter was founded in 1971 in a dismal army barracks at Camp Humphreys, South Korea, by myself and Ted Spencer. We viewed it as an antidote to the humorless olive drab lives we were leading. Or as a revolutionary act of resistance against the forces of military darkness who insisted we get haircuts, I don't remember which. Whatever the reason, we forked over our three bucks for lifetime memberships.

It wasn't long before we began planning a night race around the Camp Humphreys runway with 2.5 ton trucks liberated from the motorpool. The race was canceled when we realized that the runway's corner workers, the MPs, carried .45 caliber pistols and were notoriously humor impaired. But we did officially sanction the rat hockey games that would erupt when rodents from nearby rice paddies wandered into our barracks.

The PRDA's philosophy guides my amateur racing efforts to this day. I race hard, but I never let the hard stuff get in the way of having fun at the race track.

I've written to Oscar asking him if he has any historical artifacts he would like to share with his legions of fans. If I receive anything, or discover any worthwhile material on my own, I'll post it here.

If a PRDA member out there in cyberland happens to stumble across this page, check to see if you an old copy of the newsletter or maybe a decal. I'd love to post them. Let me know via e-mail.

Not only did he drive Oscar's Polish Racing McLaren during the 1971 CanAm season, he also sat behind the wheel of a number of great cars. And he has the photos to prove it.

My Korean/Amerikan PRDA shoulder patch

patch.gif (50220 bytes)Around 1971, while in the army in Korea, I commissioned a Korean artisan to sew a PRDA shoulder patch. He spent a day hunched over his sewing machine and then proudly handed me the patch on the left. His work didn't turn out too badly, except that he spelled America with a "k." Noticing his error too late, he had tried to fix the typo (sew-o?) by putting the correct spelling underneath, but succeeded only in making a bigger mess. He then charged me extra for the additional sewing.

After I stopped yelling at him, I decided that his efforts were in the best tradition of the PRDA, and made him an honorary member.
