Commander: John N. Sawyer. John N. Sawyer. Born in Cheverly, Maryland and lived in the Upper Marlboro area all his life. He and his wife Ann were married in 1991 on Waikiki Beach in Hawaii. John initially joined the Pvt. Wallace Bowling Camp in La Plata, MD in June of 1995. He helped charter the Maryland Line CSA Camp in Upper Marlboro a couple of years later and eventually served as the Commander of that camp for a brief time until he moved to Locust Grove, VA in November of 2000. John was elected as Commander of the Maj. Gen. Fitzhugh Lee Camp in Spotsylvania, VA in 2002 and he was the charter Commander of both the Capt. William L. Day Camp and the Rev. Beverly Tucker Lacy Camp. John held the position of 2nd Lt. Cmdr. of the Maryland Division and received a SCV Meritorious Service Award in August of 1996. In April of 2000, John was awarded the Haskins-Claggett Award, the Maryland Division SCV's most prestigious award, and in August of 2000, he was presented with a Distinguished Service Medal from Commander-in-Chief Rick Griffin. John is a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans at the National Level and the Division level. He served as 1st Lt. Cmdr. of the Virginia Division from 2006-2008 and is currently the Commander of the Virginia Division SCV for the period of 2008-2010.

Ancestor: Pvt. George E. Sweeney (G-G-Great Uncle) - Born in 1846 in Upper Marlboro, joined Co. E, 1st MD Cav. (Winder's Cavalry) in August of 1862 in Richmond. He participated in all of the engagements of that unit until captured while on picket duty in Moorefield, VA in August of 1864. He was emprisoned in Camp Chase, Ohio and exchanged at City Point, VA in late March of 1865. He returned home to farming and dealing in horses until his death in 1912.

2nd Lt. Commander & Historian: Jack F. Roberts. Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia and residing in the area for his entire life with the exception of military service. A Desert Storm, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Army Virginia National Guard veteran, Jack now resides in Partlow, Virginia, with his wife Kelley, their two daughters Brandy and Alexis, and stepdaughter Taylor.

Ancestor: Pvt. Telmachus D. Smith, Co. K, 60th VA Inf. Enlisted March 15, 1862. His hometown was Botetourt Co., Virginia. Detailed to the nitre mines on July 22, 1862 where he stayed thru final roll. Judge Advocate/Color Sgt: Joe Wright. Born in Riverdale, MD and is a lifetime member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He joined the SCV in 1990 and held camp commander positions in the Pvt. Wallace Bowling Camp and the Maryland Line CSA Camp. Joe also served as Lt. Cmdr. of the Maryland Division for two terms. He has received numerous awards from the state and national levels including the Haskins-Claggett Award, Maryland Division's highest award and 2 Meritorious Service Medals from IHQ. He moved to Beaverdam, VA in 1999. Joe served as Virginia Division Inspector from 2006-2008 and is currently serving in the position of Treasurer at the Virginia Division for the next 2 years.

Ancestor: Sgt. John Harmon Stone (G Great Uncle), Jordan's Light Artillery. Pvt. Stone was born on September 11, 1828, Halifax County, VA and enlisted in May, 1861. He participated in every major battle from the Peninsula Campaign of 1862 through the Siege of Petersburg in 1864. During the Battle of Sharpsburg, he single-handedly repaired his disabled gun and brought it safely off the field under heavy fire. He spent a short time in the Wayside and Chimborazo Hospitals before returning home in March of 1865. He was elected Captain to his company in 1865 but the war ended prior to his official commission. He returned to Liberty to his family just before the war ended to recuperate and crossed over the river on Christmas Eve, 1873.

Treasurer: James J. Portch. Born in Fredericksburg VA. Has lived in Spotsylvania Co. all his life. Joined the Sons Of Confederate Veterans in Nov of 2007. With help of Cmdr. Sawyer and his wife, he found seven relatives in the Confederacy so far. Married with four children and three grandkids.

Ancestor: Pvt. William Joseph Selph. Born Nov. 15th 1839, Enlisted May 18th 1861 in Bowling Green, VA as a private in Company F 30th Virginia Infantry. Captured in hospital in Richmond VA April 3rd 1865 turned over to Provo Marshal April 21st 1865. Transferred From Libby Prison, Richmond,VA to Newport News VA April 23rd 1865—Oath of Allegiance to the United States, subscribe and sworn to at Newport News, VA July 1st 1865.
