Southwest Narrow Gauge Steam
In September of 2009 we traveled to Colorado and New Mexico to ride and chase the remnants of the Rio Grande narrow gauge steam empire: The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. These railroads put on an incredible show with their coal fired 80 year old Mikados.
This first picture shows a Durango & Silverton train leaving Durango for Silverton on the morning of 9/16/09.

Here is the eastbound Cumbres & Toltec train climbing Cumbres Pass on 9/18/09.

And a real treat was a double header climbing Cumbres Pass on 9/19/09.
