Stampede Pass
The BNSF Stampede Pass rail line is my favorite railroad to explore and photograph, especially over the mountain between Easton and Lester. The following pictures give the flavor of the west side of the mountain, between Stampede and Lester. The first picture is looking west toward Kelly Butte and Mt. Rainier from high above Stampede. The westbound train below is traveling east at this point between the two 180 degree loops. It will soon round Borup Loop and head on west toward Lester.
This westbound PASVBT is between the daylighted Tunnels 5 and 6, right at the apex of the upper loop.
This eastbound empty grain train is crossing the Weston Viaduct on its way up the 2.2% grade to Stampede and Stampede Tunnel.
