June 9, 2009 An incredibly exciting rehearsal for Dutch Blitzkrieg last night, as we invented our own version of The Alphabet Game. Adam has so much trouble following the alphabet consecutively, that we decided to throw him into the mix as the "Say Anything" guy, with two more players following the rules of the original game. What we came up with was amazing - I laughed so hard I cried, I simply needed to stop and catch my breath. I had been feeling rather crappy all day, and after the rehearsal, I was absolutely PUMPED! It just goes to show the healing properties of laughter - and as you can hear on the video, I GUFFAWED! Click here for the YouTube link, and have a great day! June 4, 2009 We just came home from the Baccalaureate service at Conrad Weiser High School. What a lovely event! Lots of hymns, positive readings, and good wishes for the students. More than a service, it was a blessing for them as they move on in their lives. As the graduating seniors walked down the center aisle of the auditorium, I found my eyes welling up with tears of love, joy and pride. Look at how far these kids have come! Kids no longer, they are now truly young adults, about to make their ways into the world. And this was not just for my own children, but for all of their friends as well: Adam and Alexis, Hannah, Mitchell, Cotye, David, Austin, Ashley, Amanda ... the local teens who call me "Momma Mercer" ... I am happy and proud for all of their marvelous accomplishments. Onward and upward ... and tomorrow night: GRADUATION! June 3, 2009 My teenagers, Adam and Alexis, are both graduating from high school on Friday. What a glorious and exciting time for them! I am proud of my teenagers, and happy that they had enjoyed good friendships through school. Memories of my Senior Summer come flying back to me, especially the trip to Greece with The Ionian Village, a church group which offers 18 days of touring around the country and the islands. That was an adventure. This summer, Adam is going to Chicago; Lexi elected to stay home and do road trips with her friends (I expect she'll be at the shore a lot this summer, she's a sun-baby.) College is in the immediate future. Alexis plans to be a psychologist or psychiatrist, with an emphasis on art therapy; Adam plans on becoming an architect. I remember my own college days - and it was a long time. I had to put myself through college - well, me and my husband after we married - because I took one class per semester and it took a total of 15 years. I started at West Chester University in 1978, and graduated from Millersville university in December 1993. I had my entire family cheering me on at graduation - mom, dad, brother, sister and brother-in-law, husband, and both kids. (I was pregnant with both of them during my schooling at MU - in fact, my Earth Sciences class threw a baby shower for me in the science lab, and once Adam was born, one semester I had babysitter troubles, and the teacher allowed me to bring him in to classes!) It was wonderful to have my family surround me at such an important time in my life, and I am glad to say that their grandparents, Shirley and Ron, took a vacation and drove up from North Carolina for their own special occasion. My mom and dad live less than an hour away, and we are picking them up on Friday prior to graduation so they won't have to drive after dark. Best of wishes and blessings to all graduates everywhere. May your lives be filled with love, joy, happiness and success; always remember to be thankful for everything you have. Family included. |
