Planning for 2009 Brazil Trip
Many of you have been following the continuing saga of our Brazil mission trip for this summer. Gordon and Teca Greathouse, our missionaries in Brazil, were very anxious for us to come. When I asked in church who was still interested in going, there was no one who felt they could manage the time and expense this year. Due to the decline of the dollar all over the world, the trip has gotten very expensive, both in airfares and per diem expenses.

I contacted Gordon and told him that Princeton just couldn't send a group this year and that I was so sorry to disappoint him. He emailed me back that he was sorry we couldn't come, but he had another church in mind that wanted to send a team, but had never done a foreign mission before. He asked if I would be willing to organize a group from Rome (GA) First Methodist. I grew up in that church!! I thought that was an answer to a prayer and I emailed him right back that I would love to do that. Then I started trying to contact the church in Rome. After two weeks, I finally heard from them that they cannot send a group this year either, maybe in the future.

I have just made the decision tonight (Jan. 26) that I will not go with Tuckston this summer. Instead we at Princeton will focus our efforts on raising money to send a group in 2009. The UMW already has some wonderful ideas about how to raise money for missions in the coming year and I hope other groups will be able to contribute also. You can start looking forward to more pancake suppers and other FUNdraisers to help with our trip and be thinking about joining us.
