This was a good day.

Even though we have decided traveling is one of the hardest parts of retirement, we find at least one redeeming event each day.

Today the big event was an outlet mall in Connecticut. Up until we hit the mall, the trip was beginning to wear on my dear wife. It was a truly amazing transformation that took place when we found the Corning/Corelle store.

Before leaving the Newport, RI area (and going to the mall), we toured the old mansions neighborhood. It is the first time I have seen anything that put Beverly Hills, CA down a peg. It is unbelievable how much wealth was in this country prior to the income tax being established.

For lodging tonight we went to great effort to find a campground to crash in. All we ask for is a safe place to park/sleep and a flush toilet. We've discovered that it isn't that easy being homeless.

After all our research and asking directions, the two places we found had closed early for the season due to budget constraints.

So we moved on to the West Point Military Academy in the remote hope of finding a room. Well they had one and it is very nice with a view from three windows (of the two room suite) of the Hudson River.

We did see three traffic accidents and associated traffic jams today, the first of our journey. There seems to be a relationship between them and the proximity to NYC.

We finally left Hansom AFB. It treated us very well.

We moved south to Quincy, MA to see the homes of John Adams and John Quincy Adams.

It was well worth the hassle of trying to find the National Historic Park and a place to park.

No photos were allowed in the "old house" which contained all original furnishings. We were allowed to take non-flash pictures in their original houses, but they came out blurry because I couldn't hold the camera still enough.

There was a lot of information given to us, but the one thing that impressed Colleen and me was that the second leading cause of death among women of that period after child birth was catching fire from the large open fireplaces used for cooking and heating. Not too pleasant.

We then proceeded down the coast to Plymouth which was pretty much what we expected....not much.

We're now at the Newport Naval Station in RI where Colleen started her naval career. Apparently, a lot has changed in 30 years.

We had a great Sunday brunch omelet style pasta buffet dinner at the officers club.
