Latin Quarter Photos
Latin Quarter Information Latin Quarter Photographs
Though my Grandfather was a Greek and "spoke a civilized language", I am an Anglo-Saxon barbarian. That is because I Speak English as my first language. Back in the middle ages, scholars believed the Germanic languages, which include English, were civilized. Educated people used Latin; the language French, Spanish, Italian are Portuguese are derived from. Greek texts were, translated to Latin. So was the bible. If you didn't speak, read and write Latin you were thought to be an uneducated barbarian.

The area south of Ile la Cite in Paris was called the Latin Quarter because of its location near the university and because it teamed with people speaking Latin in the coffee shops. The Latin Quarter is no longer a place where scholarly debates take place. Instead it is a trendy little tourist area though well worth the stroll through to see the buildings. 500 years ago this was the place to be.

I hope you enjoy the photos. Any comments, please E-mail me, .
