Interlaken is a very nice town. It is situated between two lakes and is nestled at foot of the Bernese Oberland. If you look to the south, you see the impressive
Jungfrau dominating all below. It you look north, you have another set of impressive mountains to explore. The lakes, surrounded by mountains are nice for boating and have all sort of cute little towns along their shores. In all directions, you have natural, "romantic" beauty.
I took two "dead" days at Interlaken where I didn't want to do anything too strenuous since I had just been hiking around the Matterhorn and I was about to go to the Oberland. On the first day, I took a pleasant stroll along the river connecting the two lakes. On the second, I took a tour of Lake Thun. For those more adventurous (and rich) you can parasail, go rafting, go canyoning, or even jump out of a perfectly good airplane. Many travelers, including myself, use a stay in Interlaken as an springboard to go up to the Berner Oberland.
