Luzern InformationLuzern Photos

Luzern (Lecern in English) is a picturesque city located on the end of the very beautiful Lake Luzern. Majestic mountains rise up above Lake Luzern just beckoning for exploration. The old city, surrounding the Russ River, is picturesque as well. Tight streets open into attractive, mural clad squares.

The two key attractions of Luzern are the bridges which cross the Russ River and the weeping lion. As mentioned above, the Russ River has picturesque buildings on both sides of it. Yet the main attraction is the Chapel Bridge. A bridge that leads from mouth of the river to the church so that church goers can cross over to the church. (It also serves as a defensive barricade, blocking anyone from going "down" the river who is not invited.). The bridge is decorated with flowers and has a water tower about 2/3rs the length towards the church. The other site is the weeping lion, which is to symbolize the death of Swiss mercenaries who were being killed fighting for other countries.

I really enjoyed Luzern. It was a nice, relaxing city. It is low key on sites, the main one being the lake. There are numerous day trips you can take along the lake and the region. Luzern is a must see city on any trip through Switzerland.
