Zermatt Photos
At the turn of the 19th century, Zermatt was an impoverished settlement high in the southern Alps. Then, word of the unique mountain that towered over Zermatt got out and spread. And people came. However, they didn't come to see Zermatt, they came to see the unique mountain known as the Matterhorn. So Zermatt grew and grew and is now the home base of those who want to see the spectacular Matterhorn. Zermatt is my kind of town. Everything revolves around the mountains. Half of the shops sell outdoor gear. It has nice pubs and restaurants set at the foot of its famous mountain. I've included some photos of the original settlement buildings. Note that one has a piece of rock on its stilt. That was to keep out rodents. I hope you enjoy the photos. Any comments, please E-mail me, . Near the Church
This church is well worth a visit; however, not for the inside. Behind the church is a memorial garden for many of those who died trying to climb the Matterhorn.
