We've rented a cabin on the chain most summers while our kids went to camp in the area. I've paddled most of the 20 lakes in the chain, it's very nice, deep, flatwater paddling. Just go early before the power boats wake up.Two consecutive summers, I used the chain to test my speed and endurance on a long paddle in the GII. Each time I paddled a measured, 8 mile course in 2 hours 45 minutes at my "leisurley" paddling rate - it works out to 3 mph. This is dead, flatwater - no current and usually no wind. I was paddling the GII empty, just me, a dump bag and some weight in the bow to hold it down.
The second summer I also did 25 miles in one day. That was the limit of my endurance, I was very tired by the end. At 20 miles, I was doing fine, but the last 5 miles drained me.
