Complete Boat - The following items are needed to make up a fairly complete base boat, with most of the hard stuff like fin alignment done and the whole thing glued together. The installation of many fittings is required prior to gluing the boat together so they should be included in the base boat. Otherwise most of the hardware is available from SAILSetc in England. Look at their web site or write to them via Email (Visa/MC) or his US distributor, Great Basin Model Yachting in Las Vegas, (Visa/MC/Discover). SAILSetc has a very nice catalog which is yours for the asking, but they do not have an online catalog, yet.
Additional boat fittings that may not be installed by the builder but may be included for you to install or not included at all. The boat manufacturer should give you a diagram of how to install the parts. The parts are available from SAILSetc and Great Basin Model Yachting.
Keel bulbs are sometimes included for you to install on the fin, installed on the fin, or not included at all. Installation on the fin is a precise job and if the builder charges extra for the work it may be worth it. The Bantock casting is available from Great Basin Model Yachting at a cost of about $25 + $7.50 for shipping. This is a smooth casting that requires finishing and painting. Making your bulb removable from the fin is advantageous for travel, and to adjust the up angle on the bulb. There are various theories about how much of angle the bulb should be pointed up from a waterline datum plane, try 1 1/2 degrees, or check for information on Lester Gilbert's web site. |
