• Addition at a Connecting Level connect the base ten blocks and recording (multi-digit)

October


• Addition at a Symbolic level (using blocks only if the student needs them)
• Mastery of numbers 0-100 (counting, building, comparing)
• Build an addition number house (0-18) looking for addition patterns

• Start rocket ship program-review strategies for counting on by 1’s, and doubles
• Estimate amounts 0-100
• Build and compare numbers up to 999

November

• Build two numbers on mat and add (Look at numbers up to 999)
• Build two numbers on mat and add with regrouping

• Start rocket ship program-review any strategies


• Solve and create addition word problems/word stories

December & January


• Subtraction Concepts -“Take away”, what is left?
• Number Line Subtraction

• What is the relationship between addition and subtraction?

• Facts families- see flash triangle flash cards on web site under facts

• Once concept of subtraction has been taught- students can start subtraction when addition rocket is completed!

• Multi-digit Subtraction(no regrouping)-use of base ten blocks

• Rocket ships work is done 3-4 days a week

February


• Base Ten Subtraction with regrouping-use of base ten blocks

• Centers- (based on evaluation of students examples are- Place Value, Estimation, Counting, Groundworks)
• Word Problems with subtraction
• Geometry introduction-line, line segment, ray, angle, 2-dimensional shapes and properties

• Rocket ships work is done 3-4 days a week

March


• Geometry-continue investigating 2-dimensional properties and build on the 3rd dimension (naming, identifying, comparing prisms and pyramids)

• Money-identifying names and values of all coins. Adding various amount, dispersing change, word problems

• Rocket ships work is done 3-4 days a week

April

• Time- telling time to half and quarter hours, durations (how long does it take to...)

• Fractions of a circle, rectangle, number line (0, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1)-visual representations

• Rocket ships work is done 3-4 days a week

May


• Measurement length- introduction of a ruler (how to measure to the nearest inch, 1/2 inch), difference between inches and cm
• Measurement capacity- how much does it hold (customary units fluid ounces, cups, quarts, gallons)

•Data collection, graphing and probability

• Rocket ships work is done 3-4 days a week (goal is for all students to be at least mid-way through subtration rocket)
