Below is a list of the content that will be covered in each grade level

September

• Composing numbers and comparing numbers up to 100,000

• Introduction to tenths and hundredths using money

•Using place value concepts to determine 10, 100, 1000 more or less than a given number

• Rounding Numbers

•Addition of multi-digit numbers

• Rocket ship will begin with addition and subtraction facts. Students are expected to have mastered these facts in 2nd grade and this month will serve as a review.

October & November

•Review concept of Multiplication that was introduced in grade 2.

•Students will DISCOVER patterns when multiplying by powers of 10. Students will verbalize what happens after many different situations are presented. This will be built upon when using partial sums in multiplication.

•Multiplication of 2 digit by 1digit and 3 digit by 1 digit using partial sums.

• Multiplication of 2 digit by 1digit and 3 digit by 1 digit using traditional method.

•Estimating products.

•Introduction to 2 by 2 digit multiplication-partial sums approach

• Rocket ships work is done 3-4 days a week-students will vary as to what level they are on.

*Students will be able to use a multiplication chart until January when solving multiplication problems in class.

December & January

• Addition, Subtraction and Multiplication with variables and symbols- An Algebraic Approach

•Functions/Patterns- Can you guess my rule? Can you create a function machine?

•Mixed up word problems. The student will need to identify the operation and write an math sentence for the problem.

•Concrete introduction to division

•2 digit division by 1 digit division

• Rocket ships work is done 3-4 days a week

From this point on multiplication, division and place value question will be on spiral reviews and assessments so the students do not "lose" the concepts.

February & March
