2007 CCT
Sunday's CCT Fatass 50K was quite different from Saturday at Seneca.
Not as much mud as Saturday, the weather was cooler and more windy but
still nice. Due to some of the trail being underwater, we did
have to adjust the course a bit. There was some pavement also but
it wasn't too bad. Without really having a cutoff time, we could all
enjoy a nice leisurely run. Everybody ran what they felt like, some
longer than others but we all got to enjoy the day. I ran with Vicki
and Farouk for most of the day, we enjoyed each others company and walk
breaks. The Potomac was swollen and on the way back we stopped and
looked at the falls. WOW, that was fantastic.
On the way back to the park we saw John and he said that the last
section a 3 mile out and back was flooded and we would have to adjust
it a bit to get in the last 6 miles. We stopped at the visitor center
and Vicki got some snacks and we decided to go up the Nature Trail and
then take the Upland Trail back to the Heritage Trail. That made about
2 miles. Farouk and I did it and then I talked him into running it
again making the total about 30 miles. I was gonna go back out for
another 10 minutes or so and make up the last mile, Farouk was done for
the day. After the last of my running, everyone had finished and had
left. I felt pretty good and 7-1/2 hours on sunday after running almost
6-1/2 hours on saturday, my weekend was complete. It was quite an
adventure this past weekend and I had a blast and look forward to doing
it again sometime soon.
