Music Classes My goal in these classes is to bring out the inner "musical child" by sharing with your children --and you!-- the magic of this very special medium. It is essential that children absolutely love their first experiences with music so that they can continue to grow with this rich discipline. I use nature as a springboard for creative musical activities which allow children to listen with rapture; to experience the musically abstract, such as a steady beat, through movement; and which spark their imagination. Children are also introduced, at a level appropriate to their age, to the the basic language of music--short tonal and rhythmic patterns. They absorb these patterns very easily through vocal repetition first, later learning to play them on tonal bars and rhythm instruments. Preschool and elementary students experience the pure fun of making music on simple instruments as an ensemble. Older children learn the rudiments of music notation so they can write their own melodies! I try to make each class a celebration of children and their very special musical gifts. Come join us in this celebration! Music Classes Offered:
Take time out of your hectic day to share a special half-hour with your child through music in its many joyful forms. This class will enrich your daily life by making many of the songs and musical activities a part of your at-home repertoire!
Preschoolers love this creative and learning-filled approach to music where child, nature, and the imagination are centerpieces for a beautiful new song and movement repertoire. Fundamentals of music such as listening skills, an internalized beat, and tonal patterns are introduced while encouraging the spontaneity which children bring to music. Parents are invited to join their child at the end of class to share in some of the fun.
(Not be offered this session)
Young Music Makers weave song, movement, and instrument activities around a different natural habitat each week. Beautiful posters enhance listening lessons, and children have fun telling stories on percussion instruments and moving to music about nature. Children in this group learn 3-note patterns on tonal bar and play games to get acquainted with reading and writing simple rhythm patterns. Each class ends with a circle dance or "orchestra" activity for parent and child.
(Not offered this term)
This past Fall, Music Makers learned about 2/4 meter in music. Each child created his/her own march, learned to write it on the music staff, and to perform it on resonator bars or small piano keyboard.
