What's in a Name is a unit that can be taught to 2nd and
3rd graders in 6-8 weeks.
Final Project Description
Students create their own short melodic line--a musical "coat of
arms"--based on the letters from the
music alphabet that are in their names.
Skills emphasized
Students :
 | Recognize and perform a simple vocabulary of duple rhythms and stepwise tonal patterns. |
 | Become familiar with the staff. |
 | Learn the letter names of the treble clef lines and spaces. |
 | Learn to write quarter, half, whole and eighth notes and know how many
counts each rhythm unit gets. |
 | Read different time signatures and put in measure bar lines. |
 | Learn to perform dynamics and recognize their markings. |
 | Perform accompaniments or melodies as part of an ensemble. |
