Here is the basic system: floppy.zip. It contains a DOS/Windows VFAT type file image of a 1.44M floppy disk. You can't simply copy floppy.img to a DOS formatted floppy disk, you have to use a method to copy the floppy.img file as a floppy image instead. Those with Unix/Linux systems know to do the "dd if=floppy.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1" thing, which you can even do using LUD, but that is a "cart before the horse" problem. Therefore another solution is to use the rawrite program from your DOS or Windows systems instead. Note: This image file requires a 100% perfect floppy disk. The system will simply fail to boot, often without much warning or error messages, if it encounters a disk error. I have a lot of trouble with 3.5" floppy disks myself, if in doubt go buy some new blank diskettes and/or write the image to the floppy a couple of successive times to get a strong write.
There are several optional add-on files that you can use with this system. After you create the floppy disk image on a floppy disk, you will be able to read it as a "normal" floppy on your computer. Then you will notice some unused space on the disk where you can copy one or or more of these add-on "ZIP" files. Don't extract them, just copy the whole "ZIP" file. The system will automatically extract the files into a RAM disk and load/configure them when it boots up.
Note: I sometimes make changes to the system that make these modules incompatible with older versions of the base floppy.zip system or vice-versa. If you have troubles getting something to work, make sure you have the latest (or at least the same vintage) of the files.
Here is an optional CD-ROM driver which should detect IDE cdroms and allow you to "mount" them.
Those with Linux systems might want the ext2 file system support.
aic7xxx.zip is the driver for Adaptec AHA29xx series SCSI controllers.
sym53c78.zip is the older driver for SCSI cards containing the NCR, LSI-Logic or SymBIOS series "53c7xx" and 53c8xx" based SCSI controllers.
sym53c82.zip is the newer driver for SCSI cards containing the NCR, LSI-Logic or SymBios series "53c7xx" and 53c8xx" based SCSI controllers.
If you want to help develop/customize this system from within this system, which seems to be a very productive way to do things, you might want zip.zip so you can repackage the "ZIP" modules.
Next if you want to make your sound card work, you might be lucky enough to have the driver for your sound chip already packaged up. Unfortunately, many of these are untested, but here they are anyway:
If your sound card isn't listed or if you would like to configure support of a SCSI controller, other file systems, or anything else I compliled the kernel to optionally support, you can help me out by comming up with a working and tested configuration, then let me know about it. See the developers page for more details and downloads.
A sidenote: For the people who are landing on this page by searching for sound card driver "zip" files, such as "emu10k1.zip" in Google, please note that these files are specific to the single-floppy Linux based "JUD" project and probably are not what you are looking for.
