AUTHORS' NOTES – Yes this is Indiana Jones with two major differences (plus lots of little ones). One it is a group not one man. two they go after magical artifacts not just historical
October 16, 1946 - just after midnight Miranda and Jeremy walked across the campus in silence, a subdued Jerry dragging along behind them. Somehow Miranda had worked a magic all her own on Harris, Jefferson and the others at the crime scene and convinced them to allow Jerald to remain in their custody. It had taken the promise that the three of them would be down at the station for full questioning in the morning. "The poor boy is in no shape to even form a sentence never mind answer the silly yet seemingly important questions that you plan on showering down on his head." Jeremy smiled thinking back on Miranda's words. He had fought to keep the smile from his lips as she stared down the others in the room. The seriousness of the crime juxtapositioned with the breeziness of Miranda as she moved around the scene making notes and observations and also distracting the people there so Jeremy could also make notes collided to illustrate the way Miranda handled a situation and those around her. Abercroft had looked at the crime scene photos from the first murder and also at the scene as they entered the room. The first thing that struck him was the fact that he could see things at least half of those present at the scene could not. There were almost two crime scenes. One the casual, non-magick person would see. The second, the things left behind that only another witch would be able to see, much like Twack's handprints. He had silently communicated the need to investigate further with Miranda, this shared communication something he found easier and easier to do with her these days. Bringing his thoughts back to the present, he stole a glance over at Miranda and felt the smile return to his face. He found the simple act of watching her writing in her notepad as they walked to be endearing. The path she walked was slightly zig-zag as she seemed to anticipate the upcoming rock or obstacle and at the last minute would swerve thus missing the object and a possible fall. Somehow he knew she had probably fallen often and did not care. He could see her writing a few notes as she lay on the ground before getting up and continuing on. Miranda had managed to not only give Jeremy time to look around the dorm room and try a few things unnoticed, but she had gotten Jerald at least one more night of freedom. She'd even managed to walk away with a folder of notes, photos and more from both the first murder and the current one. No one could withstand the full on frontal assault that was Miranda Payton with a goal. He had learned to bend and go with the flow. In fact he was finding he rather enjoyed the maelstrom that followed the teacher where ever she went. Jeremy watched as Miranda stopped writing suddenly and slowed her walking drifting back to draw even with Jerry. She showed him her notes and put a motherly arm around his shoulder giving him a little boost as she spoke to him. The poor boy's nerves were frazzled and almost shattered. Yet even with all of the horror and chaos, the student had focused on the scene as well and made notes and even caught a few things Jeremy had missed. That was one thing to be said about the lifestyle Jerry had chosen, it gave him practice in noting and being aware of the tiny details. The Psych student often caught the little things that others missed. Jeremy wondered how much of that was a natural ability and how much was a learned technique, a method of survival based on how Jerry now chose to live. Turning into his apartment complex, Jeremy noticed a light glaring from the window; that meant Twack was still awake. Waiting for the other two to catch up, he unlocked the gate and held it open for them. "Okay, let's go get settled for the night, shall we?" Miranda continued to hold the young man as they walked through the open gate. "Well, maybe not settled yet, I think we should call a meeting now." Miranda said looking at both men. "One of ours is in trouble," she paused and squeezed the student's shoulder, "And we all know the trouble is something the local authorities can not touch, only end up a victim of what ever is coming." "Miranda, the Whatever is already here." Jerald said quietly thinking about the bodies of his two friends. "The taint, whatever it is, has already started to spread." He closed his eyes then and lowered his head taking a breath. Opening his eyes he looked at the faces of the two teachers. "I'm not okay, but I'll be alright, I promise." Not saying anything more, the three made their way to Jeremy's apartment. contact: docwho2000@hotmail.com page last modified - August 1, 2006 graphics from www.eosdev.com |
