There are many societies and groups out there to protect and preserve the French Quarter (in the groups' own words). They have different agendas, different structures and somewhat different memberships. Some have been around since the 1920s and some are more recent. They all seem to be very politically active and very watchdog in their actions. They develop guidelines in how buildings in the French quarter (Vieux Carré) should look, be maintained, and what can and can not be developed. They work to legally and politically uphold these guidelines. Many of the members are VERY passionate about what they do and it shows in how they approach anyone who seems to not be holding to the standards set by the organizations.

And I must admit - there are some quotes from these articles that just make me giggle - such as

The groups I use in the story are made up, kinda a conglomeration of the existing groups and of course melded to fit the story. That said, there is no intention of relating the story to any real life people or direct events.
This story had its birth during one of the tours I took of the French Quarter. The Tour guide was very boisterous and she offered many "inside" stories about the assorted businesses and people of the Quarter, including the groups who strive to preserve and maintain the original feel of the Quarter (her words regarding the way the groups operate can not be reprinted in a story with only an R rating hehe

It is amazing all of the small details that exist about a place and how they all have stories and we so often miss those stories - like the termite traps....

PS - yes Pbwr there are some major Easter eggs for both past and future stories <attempts innocent look>
PSS - there is a definite method behind the selection of certain names for this story - a cookie, gold star or other goodie to the person who can figure out what the method/relationship/whatever is to the names.....
