Clock Tower, Monday (right after timing in chapter 10) --------- Once the elevator had closed behind Dana, Helena paused, but only for a moment. Moving, she headed toward the kitchen, and Barbara. "What hurts?" she asked softly, pausing just inside the doorway. Barbara finished her glass of water and then moved to replace the medicine bottles back on the counter her movements methodical and precise. "Nothing that the little white and blue pills can't handle." She replied sarcastically as she moved to refill her glass. Moving closer, Helena put her hands on Barbara's shoulders. "I'm sorry she didn't have more." She raised her shoulders in defiance pushing them up against the woman's hands for a moment before letting them sag. "She had what we always seem to end up with from the local authorities. They have worked to handle the case to the best of their abilities." She turned then and rolled over to another counter noting a couple of the containers were out of place. She pushed them back making sure they were lined up. "Barbara..." Helena said, still not sure how she was supposed to be dealing with her concern for the distant redhead. " Helena?" Barbara finally spared the brunette a look. A sharp and stern look. "You want me to play nice? You of all people should not be telling me about playing nice. This is about keeping the city and people safe, not worrying about someone's hurt feelings." "I don't want you to play nice," Helena said, taking a few steps forward. "I just want you to let me be here for you..." "What exactly does that mean?" Barbara brought her hands to rest in her lap. "You seem to be here. I'm glad you are here." She paused and ran a finger over her thumb. She was immensely glad Helena was here. Here rather than off in the night on some personal activity while dutiful little Oracle worked on busy work in the hopes that Helena might stop by. Finding yet one more activity or excuse to remain up, online and waiting, just in case Helena would appear. Barbara closed her eyes as those memories echoed in her head, it seemed like an eternity ago. "You can talk to me. Don't you know that?" Helena asked, crouching some until they were at eye level. Feeling the brunette's stare, Barbara opened her eyes and gasped a little startled at how close the intense blue eyes were to her. "I am talking to you." She started trying to defend her tone and replies. She trailed off though as the continued intense gaze seemed to deflate her bluster. "Are you?" Helena asked; her voice soft as she moved her hands to rest on the armrests of Barbara's chair. Making sure to look at the young woman's gesture as one of comfort not one meant to make her feel trapped, Barbara backed away from a flip answer as well as deciding to bypass an honest one. "I'm answering your questions and responding to your comments. Isn't that what you want?" "I want to know that you feel comfortable telling me whatever is bothering you," Helena said, one of her hands moving to Barbara's. Her eyes darted back and forth over Hel's face as she knew right now she was not comfortable thinking about certain issues. Staving off that idea and dragging deep with it the related thoughts, Barbara laid her free hand over Helena's. "Thank you and I know you are not making that offer lightly." She smiled a little hoping to ease the tension and maybe even change the topic. "Asking you to sit still for any length of time is about as easy as petting a porcupine." "I just worry... okay?" Helena said, "Something else that I don't usually do, right?" Her face drew down into a suspicious frown. "No, it's not." she said slowly. "Why are you worried? According to Dana we have the case fairly tied up. A few more reports." ~Finding a way to get the information I want...~ "And we can stamp this all case closed. So why are you worrying?" "I'm worried about you. I do that when people get kidnapped," Helena said. " Helena." Barbara said feeling a quick rush of frustration. Wiping at her face trying to collect her suddenly scattered thoughts, she tamped down her frustration. "There is no need to be worried about me. The two killers are locked up and I was kidnapped, I am not now. You needn't worry." She suddenly pulled hard on Helena's arms to draw the woman close to her face, "Unless you know a reason why you should be worrying. A reason linked to something that happened when I was kidnapped." She forced herself to hold Helena's gaze even as her eyes had started to burn a little and feel scratchy. "I already told you everything I saw," Helena said, licking her lips as Barbara pulled her closer. "Then Helena," Barbara whispered being mindful of the meta's sensitive hearing. "There's no need to worry." As she spoke she moved a hand up and around to the back of the woman's neck so she could pull and guide her closer. "I'm fine." She pulled the brunette so close that as she spoke her next words her lips brushed over Helena's, "We're fine, okay?" "Glad to hear it," Helena murmured back, her hands on the chair's armrests to keep her from falling onto Barbara as she began to kiss the red head. Letting her concerns and own worries go; she straightened up in her chair pressing harder against the velvet lips. Her fingers began to tangle and pull through brunette hair, her other hand moving to rest on one of Helena's hands. As the kiss deepened, Barbara found it easier and easier to let go of anything except the now and how the other woman was making her feel. After a moment, Helena pulled back, but only slightly. "Any way we can do this somewhere else? 'Cause I don't want to put weight on your thighs until they've healed better, and I'm afraid I'm gonna fall on you..." she smiled softly, her eyes tight on Barbara's, the green eyes only inches from her own. She let her hand unwind from the hair as she let it glide down across the woman's cheek. "Why? Afraid Alfred might walk in on us?" She teased feeling a little light headed. Not sure if it was from the all too brief contact or the pain killers beginning to kick in, she just nodded some. Noting the nod did not hurt as much as it had earlier; she surmised the dizziness was only partially the work of Helena's supple lips. "Are you concerned you might fall on me? What happened to all of the strength and dexterity and grace you are supposed to possess?" She tried to look serious. "I think you're just having that effect on me," Helena smiled. "Weak in the knees and all..." she trailed off, very slowly pushing herself upright. "I have an effect on you? Hmmm, I'm not sure I believe that." She teased finding her sore shoulder muscles had relaxed a little and that seemed to make it easier for some reason to talk. "I think you need to prove you really are as limber and dexterous as you are always bragging…" ~L-limber did I just use that word? I meant flexible, no that's worse, although I am sure she is very, very flexible and….~ As she worked over her thoughts, her eyes absently drifted down resting on the woman's chest. "So tell me, are we taking this to the couch, or to your bedroom?" Helena asked with a smirk. Impulsively, Barbara reached up and traced the smirking lips with her index finger. "The bed's bigger, means I can stretch out more. But the TV is out by the couch. So we can head there if you want to watch some movies or something." "I'd really rather just watch you," Helena admitted with a grin. "Watch me?" The thought of Helena watching her caused a shiver to run through her body even as her voice came out low and breathy. "I'm not sure just watching someone lying around in bed trying to sleep is quality entertainment. But if that is what you want, I don't want to deny any request of yours." "Then let's go," Helena said, moving her hand to urge Barbara's chair forward. The teasing with Helena had served to pull her mind fully away from the case and concerns and tension. Combined with the pills she had taken, Barbara found herself pleasantly snug and from the way Helena looked and was acting she felt almost smug knowing she was having an affect on the brunette. Keeping a hold on the brunette, Barbara gladly acquiesced to Helena's command and headed out of the kitchen. contact: docwho2000@hotmail.com page last modified - April 21, 2007 graphics from www.eosdev.com |
