The X-1 Grand SLAMMs fire diagonally across my 35'X22'X9' listening room. There is approximately twelve feet between each speaker creating an equilateral triangle with the listening position. The diagonal arrangement is beneficial due the avoidance of direct side-wall reflections. No rear wall comes into play due the vast space behind the listener. With Brazilian cherry floors and some glass/wrought iron furniture, the room is somewhat live. The drapes, area rugs and some large furnishings do absorb their share of floor and ceiling reflections.
Due to the size of the room, deep bass is supported and allowed the opportunity to develop nicely. Pressurization doesn?t occur until the listening level is quite high, allowing waves of bass such as those created by pipe organs, to sound quite natural. Additions since the rendering includes a metal framed equipment rack with cherry shelves.
The WILSON X-1 Grand SLAMMS and the XS subwoofer anchor the system. A Jeff Rowland 8T provides power for the mains and an Aragon Palladium monoblock for the sub. My preamp is the Coda 04r and the source is a Pioneer 606D DVD player. Cabling is primarily Harmonic Technology. I listen to Jazz, rock, and folk mainly but the system also sees some dance and new age occasionally. Oh, and plenty of home theater as well. I guess you could say the rig is on all the time!
