Freebie Notes

CTC Panel

Home Page

Once you have your panel operational, your dispatcher is going to need some assistance in keeping track of which trains are to run and which trains are running, and more importantly, where are they now and what are they going to do.   I played with movable train number icons from the JMRI add text tool but it didn't really give me what I wanted.  I decided that maybe a yellow sticky note program would work.  After downloading about a half a dozen and trying them I chose Freebie Notes.  http://www.pw-soft.com/stick-notes/index.html?prog=FN

It's Freeware, so the price is right.  I chose it because I could reduce the size of the note to a far greater extent than other products.  Reduced size allows the Train Number and its starting location to show.  The Disptacher can move the notes around the screen as the train progresses along its route.  An even nicer thing is to include info on all the stops and which towns the train will work.   Special instructions can be included as well.  The Dispatcher can then open the note to see what impact the train will have on the location and assist him/her in managing the overall traffic.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you have to scroll your CTC screen in any direction, the notes will not move so this solution will not work with large CTC screns.

Freebie Notes at the start of a session.  Each note represents a train and its current location
