Dr. Carol A. Nicholeris (BM, MAT, CAGS, DMA) has been on the faculty of Bridgewater State College since 1988. In her position as Assistant Professor of Elementary Music Education at the Burnell Elementary Laboratory School, she was responsible for the design and implementation of a model general music education curriculum and methodology. Her music education specialties and doctoral research interests have been focused in the areas of music education philosophy, brain research, curriculum design and music education methodologies. For her work in music education, in 1997, Dr. Nicholeris was inducted as a lifetime member of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national honor society of professional musicians.
In 1998, Dr. Nicholeris transferred to the music department where she now holds the position of Professor of Music with specialities in music composition and general studies. Dr. Nicholeris is an active member of the Music Educator's National Conference and the Massachusetts Music Educator's Association, and she has served these organizations as conference clinician and as performance judge. In addition to teaching, Dr. Nicholeris has an extensive background as a conductor of choral music and has directed church choirs, community choruses, and public school choruses at all grade levels. Dr. Nicholeris is an active member of the American Choral Director's Association and has served as clinician, workshop director, and performance judge for organizational events and conferences at the local and regional levels.
As a composer, Dr. Nicholeris has written for both vocal and instrumental ensembles. Upon request, she has composed two new songs for Bridgewater State College: “The Alumni Anthem” which is the school's new alma mater, and “Go Bears!”, the new fight song for the athletic department. Her works have been performed by organizations such as the Greater Boston Youth Symphony, the Boston University Women's Chorus, the Music Festival Chorus of Charlotte, NC, the Westfield State College Choir, the Harbour Choral Arts Society of Hanover, MA, and the Bridgewater State College Chamber Choir, as well as other choruses throughout the United States and overseas.
