Tozour Family's Fluorescent Rocks Page 15:

Radioactive Fluorescent Minerals

Beta Particles

Uraninite, Autunite, Uranium Glass

Most fluorescent minerals are not radioactive but some uranium and thorium containing minerals are both slightly radioactive and fluorescent.

(Best viewed in True Color or High Color)

Uraninite with autunite

Uraninite with autunite specimen about one inch from Geiger Counter
Uraninite with autunite
Uraninite with autunite under SW UV

Uraninite with autunite wav

This 5 second sample ( above ) of clicks recorded from the Geiger counter with the beta slots facing the uraninite with autunite at about one inch shows around 35 counts / 5 sec. or 420 counts / minute, about 20 times the reading of gamma only ( background ).

uranium glass

Here is a uranium glass specimen about one inch from a Geiger Counter.

Uranium glass contains 1% - 2% uranium oxide

Uranium Glass Bottle
Uranium glass under SW UV

UraniumGlassBottle wav

This 5 second sample ( above ) of clicks recorded from the Geiger counter with the beta slots facing the uranium glass at about one inch shows around 11 counts / 5 sec. or 132 counts / minute, about 6 times the reading of gamma only ( background ).
